🎉 Last night, we were proud to recognise colleagues at our annual Long Service Awards Ceremony, celebrating milestones from 20 years of service through to an incredible 48 years.

Collectively, this year's recipients represent more than 660 years of service to Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service, helping to protect and support communities across Buckinghamshire.

A special congratulations to Firefighter Neil Stafford, who was recognised for an extraordinary 48 years of service. A truly remarkable achievement.

Thank you to all award recipients for your dedication, professionalism and commitment.

Tonight our On-Call unit at Buckingham is practising their breaking-in skills!

Occasionally we will get called out to cars that have inadvertently been locked from the inside.

We have specialist entry equipment that allows us to gain entry without damaging the car permanently. In extreme cases, we can smash windows immediately where there may be a danger to life.

It’s important for us to practice these niche skills as sometimes there may be occupants inside that need our help (young children), especially in the warmer weather where the inside of a car can quickly become a dangerous environment.

Could we fit down your street?

Today, alongside our colleagues at Thames Valley Police we drove around our local area to identify and educate areas where parking can be a hazard as we make our way to incidents.

Due to the arduous conditions we are currently facing with the warmer weather, not only as a local service but nationally as the Fire Service, making sure that you leave enough room for us to get through and parking considerably can help us a lot as every second counts in an emergency.

Last night our On-Call unit at Buckingham went back to basics, practicing pumps and ladders. These skills are essential for us and ensures we are ready when the time comes.

Alongside this they also practiced their Immediate Emergency Care skills, an enhanced form of first aid so we can further help those in trouble.

Due to the significant amount of winter rain we have received in the past week, we are seeing a lot of flooded roads in and around Buckingham.

Please make sure to pay attention to any Road Closed signs and if in doubt, find an alternate route.

Cars, unfortunately, will not turn into submarines when exposed to deep water. Please stay safe in this cold and wet weather ❄️

Roads to avoid:
• Ox Lane, Padbury
• Leckhampstead Wharf, Thornborough
• Addington Road Verney Junction

🔥 Have Your Say on the Future of On-Call Fire Cover in Buckingham

We are currently running a consultation about On-Call fire cover. Are you interested to know what is being proposed specifically for Buckingham?
🚒Remove the On‑Call fire engine at Buckingham and
âś…Replace it with a Rural Firefighting Vehicle (RFV), a specialist unit with a dedicated 4x4 capability, designed for tackling; grass, fields and flooding incidents in a range of outdoor scenarios.

Why is this being proposed?
👉Buckingham’s On‑Call fire engine has had consistently low availability, in 2024/25 it responded to 15 incidents.
👉 The Rural Firefighting Vehicle only needs two firefighters to be available to be able to respond to an emergency. This means there will be an increased availability to be able to respond to more specific incidents when you really need us.
