The team from Thrive, Burnley’s youth hub, attended a programme of summer events to advise school leavers about their next steps in work and education.

Some of the events were organised under the TechFirst pilot scheme, a government funded digital skills initiative delivered by IN4Group, The Calico Group and Burnley Council.

An AI bootcamp, to help young people access opportunities within the growing digital sector, was particularly popular.

Schemes like TechFirst not only improve key skills and prospects for young people, they also widen the talent pool for businesses looking to recruit in IT support and helpdesk roles, contributing to Burnley’s digital strategy and local ecosystem. Local employers CRC Evans and VEKA UK have already committed to interviewing young people from the programme for current apprenticeship roles.

If you’re a young person looking for employment or skills support, you can get in touch with Thrive Youth Hub by calling 01282 686465, or email [email protected].

The TechFirst pilot scheme is part of the national TechFirst Programme. More information can be found at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/techfirst.

The annual bonfire and firework display notification scheme is designed for individuals and organisations planning bonfires or firework displays leading up to and around Bonfire Night. The scheme has been effective in reducing the number of fire service call-outs for nuisance fires during their busiest time of the year.

The Streetscene Enforcement Team has seized another vehicle after it was allegedly used to fly-tip waste in a car park just off Colne Road, Burnley.

Our officers tracked the vehicle to an address in Accrington and, with the assistance of Hyndburn Police, promptly seized it.

The vehicle's owners have now been requested to attend a formal interview at the council offices to answer questions about the incident.

It doesn't matter whether you live in Burnley or outside the borough. If we suspect your vehicle has been involved in fly-tipping, we will investigate, track you down and, where the legal grounds are met, use our powers to seize the vehicle.

Fly-tipping blights our communities, damages the environment and costs money to clean up. We are actively pursuing those responsible, and we will not hesitate to take action.

Dump illegally. Lose your vehicle. Face the consequences

Smoke from burning wood and other solid fuels can affect our health, particularly for children, older people and those with heart or lung conditions.

Burnley Borough Council is consulting on proposals to extend Smoke Control Area coverage across the whole borough, helping to reduce pollution from chimneys and raise awareness of the rules around burning fuels.

Although air quality in Burnley has improved over the years, there is more we can do to protect the health and wellbeing of our communities.

You don't need to have a wood-burning stove or open fire to take part. We want to hear your views on the proposals and your experiences of smoke across Burnley.

Complete the survey by Friday 11 December 2026.
