A round up of our recent callouts - with Kinder Scout featuring heavily this week!

Callout: 116
Date: 11th October 2026
Time: 0046
Location: Grindslow Knoll

We were called to assist a group of four walkers, who were benighted on Kinder Scout in wet weather. Once the team reached them, they were assessed and we walked them off the hill to Edale.

Callout: 117
Date: 13th October 2026
Time: 1622
Location: Monsal Trail

A couple had become disorientated on the Monsal Trail. They were talked back to their accommodation by the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation controller, therefore the team did not need to be deployed.

Callout: 118
Date: 17th October 2026
Time: 2245
Location: Kinder Scout

We were called out by Derbyshire Police to assist a group of four people on Kinder Scout. Two were unwell and might have needed to be stretchered off. Due to the possibility of this, we requested assistance from our colleagues at Kinder Mountain Rescue Team, and each team deployed a stretcher. Our team walked up from Edale Village, and Kinder team approached from Edale Cross. The casualties were located and assessed, and were able to walk off the hill with assistance. Kinder team returned to their base, and we escorted the group down to Edale village.

Callout: 119
Date: 19th October 2026
Time: 1925
Location: Kinder Scout

Whilst team members were training for the Remote Rescue Medical Technician’s exam, which takes place next month, we were called out as part of the ‘Kinder Search Plan’. This is a pre-defined plan that is in place in conjunction with Edale Mountain Rescue Team, Kinder Mountain Rescue Team and Glossop Mountain Rescue Team, when a search on Kinder Scout is required and we do not know the location of the casualty. Two benighted walkers were lost on Kinder Scout, and we didn’t know where.

The four teams, along with our search dog Wren, and our drone team, were mobilised.

While team members were making their way to the rendezvous, it was determined, using phone location technology, that the casualties were near Kinder Gates, which is part of Kinder team’s area. Buxton team was stood down and Kinder team completed the call out.

The area around Chee Tor in Chee Dale where the River Wye meanders through limestone crags can present particular problems when extracting a casualty.

The footpath through this beautiful and dramatic area has sections of polished and slippy limestone rock presenting a nasty hazard for the many walkers and for the team.

The easiest way to extract an injured casualty from this area is to avoid the slippy rocks and walk through the water. This is challenging and requires practice. Consequently last Thursday the team rescued the training dummy, had a refreshing dip in the river and washed their socks at the same time.
