Out on patrol this evening across the Hope Valley (High Peak side) in some very wet and windy conditions.

Thankfully, PC Rain is doing a great job tonight, and so far things have remained relatively quiet.

A quick reminder to please report any suspicious activity to the police, either at the time of the incident or as soon as you become aware of it. I've been made aware of a few incidents this evening that occurred over recent days but do not appear to have been reported. Reporting these matters helps keep us informed and enables us to focus our patrols where they are most needed, which is especially important given the size and rural nature of the area.

Stay safe if you're heading out this evening. ☔

**Incident Update | Long Hill, Buxton**

We wanted to provide an update and thank our community for their patience over the past two days.

Officers from our Safer Neighbourhood Team and Response Policing Unit have been working alongside colleagues from the Fire and Rescue Service, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and East Midlands Ambulance Service at a property on Long Hill, Buxton.

We were called to the address after chemicals were discovered during a property clearance. Following specialist assessment, the chemicals were safely removed from the property and disposed of by the EOD team in a controlled explosion.

We know the road closures and emergency service presence caused disruption for local residents, businesses and visitors, and we are incredibly grateful for the understanding, patience and support shown by the community while we worked to ensure everyone's safety.

The roads have now reopened and normal access has resumed. A police scene will remain in place at the property for a short period whilst the last enquiries are completed.

Thank you once again for your cooperation and support 💙🚔

| Road closures remain in place this morning in the Buxton and Whaley Bridge area following the discovery of potentially hazardous chemicals related to photography.

We received a report at 11:30am yesterday (Monday 12 October) that potentially hazardous chemicals had been found at an empty property in Manchester Road.

The chemicals were found during the clearance of the property after the death of the owner. This death was not suspicious and unrelated to the chemicals in the property.

The A5004, Long Hill from Buxton to Whaley Bridge, Old Road at the junction with Lesser Lane, and the access route from Elnor Lane to Long Hill were closed as a precaution while police and the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) attended to assess the chemicals.

The chemicals are being removed from the property this morning and will be destroyed by EOD, by way of a controlled explosion. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the substances, and there is no ongoing risk to the public.

The roads will be re-opened once the EOD have completed the disposal of the chemicals.

This morning we were out early on and joined the Bamford Speedwatch Team who thankfully recorded only a few vehicles driving at excessive speed along Main Rd, Bamford.

Speeding remains a concern for many residents and local volunteers play an important role in helping to address it.

Derbyshire Police’s Community Speed Watch scheme enables trained volunteers to work together to monitor speeds and encourage safer driving. Bamford has a successful and active group, but are always seeking additional volunteers to join the team.

If you are interested in helping to make your community a safer place, please consider getting involved.

How does it work?

ï‚· Groups of trained volunteers conduct high visibility speed checks at approved locations

ï‚· Details of speeding vehicles are then forwarded to the CSW Team who verify the details and enter them onto a central database

ï‚· The registered owner is then sent an advisory/warning letter notifying them that they have been recorded speeding and that their details will be held pending any further incidents of them exceeding the speed limit

ï‚· This can include a personal visit by a Police Officer to deliver the letter dependent upon the circumstances.

Benefits

ï‚· Deters incidence of speeding at the location and immediate area at the time of sessions taking place

ï‚· Enables advisory/warning letters to be sent to those recorded as speeding

ï‚· Provides direct evidence of a speeding problem that can be utilised by police enforcement and other agencies

ï‚· Provides an opportunity for local communities to take a direct and positive stand against speeding

ï‚· Due to it being volunteer lead, the scheme provides the clearest sign that the community is no longer willing to tolerate speeding

ï‚· Directly contributes towards speeding becoming socially unacceptable
