🏛️ WEST SURREY – HELP SHAPE YOUR NEW COUNCIL

Good morning everyone. Consultation on West Surrey’s emerging Corporate Strategy is now open, and I would encourage residents across all our towns and villages to take part.

ℹ️ WHAT IS A COUNCIL CORPORATE STRATEGY?

The council’s main plan for 2027–2030: what we want to achieve, our priorities and how these should guide decisions and spending.

For our administration, it translates the manifesto we stood on in May into a practical plan for the council. It should also give residents something clear to judge our progress against.

Our financial position will be very challenging. The strategy needs to be honest about what we can deliver with the resources available.

🗣️ ENGAGEMENT ACROSS WEST SURREY

Public drop-in sessions will take place across Guildford, Runnymede, Spelthorne, Surrey Heath, Waverley and Woking. No booking is needed.

It was brilliant to meet Lorraine and the team and see first-hand the amazing work they're doing to support young people with SEND. 🐐🌻

The farm provides such a positive, nurturing space where young people can learn practical skills, grow in confidence, enjoy new experiences and, most importantly, have fun! 😊

An important update for West Surrey residents as plans for the new council begin to take shape. 🏛️ Worth a read, particularly for those interested in local services, accessibility and where the council will be based going forward.

WEST SURREY INITIAL HQ DECISIONS 🏛️

Good afternoon everyone.

The Executive of West Surrey met this morning in public to determine a number of items, but the most important of those from a public and staff position is that of the Day 1 HQ.

Today we determined that: ⤵️

1️⃣ Millmead (Guildford) will be the Civic HQ and is where Full Council will continue to be held.

2️⃣ Woking Civic Centre + Victoria Gate will jointly serve as an Organisation HQ (our main staff base).

3️⃣ We will be starting the process to determine a future permanent HQ. This is part of wider task of looking at all the land and property the new West Surrey will own as well as our staff working patterns and other important factors.

This will also include the location of some of the larger departments of the new council.

4️⃣ We will be looking at maintaining local access for residents across West Surrey through our Localism policy over the next few months.

Following an interesting update from the Leader of West Surrey Council on the budget process, I thought it would be helpful to share his update and begin exploring what this means for our boroughs and the transition towards the new authority.

As a councillor, I believe it is important that residents understand how this process is developing, the financial challenges involved, and the implications for our local communities.

🏡Planning Application Update :

We're aware that a planning application has been submitted to SHBC for 54 new homes, including a mix of flats and houses, on the land behind Spencer Close and Chartwell.

My councillor colleague, Cllr Helen Whitcroft, will be leading on this and will be contacting Planning Officers this week to seek the full details and ensure residents are kept informed.

We'll share further information as soon as we have it. It's important that local residents have a clear understanding of the proposals and an opportunity to have their say.
