Dyma 3 Men's Morris – gêm strategol syml rhwng dau sy’n cael ei chwarae ers canrifoedd.
Gyda thri chownter yr un a naw pwynt ar y bwrdd, y nod oedd cael tri mewn rhes a rhwystro'ch gwrthwynebydd rhag gwneud yr un peth.

Byddai pobl yn chwarae gan ddefnyddio beth bynnag oedd gerllaw:
Cerrig neu gownteri wedi’u cerfio - bydden nhw’n cael eu cadw mewn bagiau lledr bach a’u chwarae ar fyrddau o bren cerfiedig, a byddai’r cyfoethog hyd yn oed yn eu haddurno ag aur.

Syml, cymdeithasol, a hynod dactegol – roedd gemau fel hyn yn rhan o fywyd bob dydd ar draws pob lefel o gymdeithas.

From Pebbles to Parchment: The Story of 3 Men’s Morris

Did you know that noughts and crosses have medieval roots? ⭕❌⭕

Meet 3 Men’s Morris — a simple two player strategy game played for centuries.
With just three counters each and nine points on a board, the aim was to line up three in a row while blocking your opponent.

People played using whatever they had to hand:
Pebbles or carved counters - kept in small leather drawstring bags, carved wood, or even gilded leather for the wealthy.

Simple, social, and surprisingly tactical — games like this were part of everyday life across all levels of society.

Grab a pencil and paper and have a go yourself!

One of very few 17th-century churches to avoid the ‘restorers’ of the Victorian Gothic revival. It was the private chapel of Colonel William Salesbury, affectionately known as ‘Hen Hosanau Gleision’ or Old Blue Stockings.
