Ahead of our Halloween skele-brations, we're shining a light on the most significant skeleton discovered in Cheddar π
Did you know that the oldest near-complete human skeleton in Great Britain was found right here in Gough's Cave? It was first discovered in 1903, when drainage improvements were being made. At first there were claims that the skeleton was the long-sought earliest Englishmen, but scientists have since proved that the remains belonged to a Mesolithic man, which means that he lived around 10,000 years ago.
You can learn more about the skeleton we call Cheddar Man when you visit Gough's Cave and the Museum of Prehistory as part of a day out here at Cheddar Gorge & Caves.
