We’re looking for new volunteers to join our Community Resilience Team and help support our new Community Emergency Hubs.

In situations such as severe weather, power cuts or supply disruptions, these hubs will provide reliable local information, warmth, reassurance and practical support until normal services resume.

👤 There are a variety of ways to help at a hub. Whether you can welcome visitors, make refreshments, share local knowledge and provide signposting, help with communications, offer practical skills or support vulnerable residents, your help could make a real difference.

🙌 By volunteering, you can help keep our community safe, connected and supported when it matters most.

We are pleased to be supporting the formation of a new Community Speedwatch group, working in partnership with local volunteers to promote safer roads in our community.

The Parish Council has provided funding for the equipment required by the newly formed group and will work alongside its volunteers to help recruit additional volunteers and promote the group’s activities within the community. As part of the partnership, the Parish Council will also liaise with the Community Speedwatch group to identify and highlight locations where speed monitoring activities would be beneficial. All locations have to be risk assessed and approved by Sussex Police before being used volunteers.

Community Speedwatch is an education focused initiative, designed to raise awareness among drivers about the importance of appropriate speed and encourage safer driving behaviour. It is not intended to replace or replicate the role of the police in enforcing speed limits. Instead, trained volunteers monitor vehicle speeds at approved locations and, where appropriate, information is passed through the established Community Speedwatch process to Sussex Police.

Could you volunteer?

The group is looking for local residents who would like to volunteer their time and help support this community initiative. Whether you are concerned about speeding in your area or simply want to play a positive role in improving road safety, your support would be welcome.

If you would like to find out more about volunteering with the Barnham & Eastergate Community Speedwatch group, please contact: [email protected]

The Parish Council looks forward to working with the group.
