Family Care Therapeutic fostering, residential and SEN education services. Improving children's lives since 1988

Company Overview

Family Care is a family owned organisation that has been helping children in care since 1988. We have 2 schools for children with special educational needs, 5 children's homes, and an independent fostering agency supporting foster families across the North West and the Midlands. We follow established therapeutic practice models, led by the Secure Base. Our therapy team train all foster carers and staff to work within this framework, helping us to provide 24/7 therapeutically-informed care to our children and young people.

Colleen Rooney grew up in a fostering family. In a clip from the We Need to Talk podcast, she talks about her parents fostering while she was growing up, and how much of a positive impact it had on their family as a whole 💕

That's exactly what Children of Foster Carers Week is about. The sons and daughters of foster carers share their home, their parents and their time, and they help make foster care work.

Saw the national campaign about fostering? Wondering if it's actually possible with your life as it is right now? 🤔 If you're juggling a career, a mortgage or a young family, you might assume you're too busy or not qualified. It's always worth a proper chat before you rule yourself out!

You'll need a spare bedroom. From there, our team breaks the process down in simple steps. The assessment usually takes 4 to 6 months and is tailored to your family 💕 Book a call to find out what fostering could look like alongside your working life. 📞

Throwback to last year, when our foster carer Emily talked about Children of Foster Carers Week 💕 She shared how her kids feel about fostering as a family 😊

Fostering is a whole-family thing. Children share their home, their parents and their time, and the bonds they build can be the ones nobody saw coming. We're so proud of Emily's family and of every child of a foster carer! ✨

Today marks the start of a very special week dedicated to celebrating the incredible birth and adopted children of our foster families 🥳

Growing up in a fostering family takes kindness, flexibility, and a huge heart. From sharing their homes, toys, and parents to being a welcoming friend when a child needs it most, these young people play an essential role in making foster care work 💕

They are companions, listeners, and quiet heroes. Simply put: fostering wouldn't be possible without them.
To every child of a foster carer across our Family Care family: 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂. Keep an eye on the post this week—we’ve got a little something heading your way to show just how much you mean to us! 💐✨

365 days a year 🧡

Mental health doesn't end when World Mental Health Day is over.

It’s built in the daily routines, the quiet check-ins, the listening ears, and the safe spaces we create for our young people (and ourselves) every single day.

Keep taking care of yourselves and each other. Small moments of care add up to big healing. ✨

Mental health isn't just about how we process the world—it’s about the environment we’re surrounded by. For many children entering foster care, having a stable, loving home can be the turning point that helps them build resilience, process trauma, and feel secure again 🫂

On this , we celebrate the foster carers who open their hearts and homes to nurture not just a child's day-to-day life, but their emotional wellbeing and peace of mind 💛

💬 Healing starts with connection. Could you offer a safe space to a child who needs it? 😊

A lot of people believe becoming a foster carer takes years and costs you money before a child ever walks through your door.

It sounds reasonable. Something this important feels like it should be long and expensive.

It is not what we see. 💛

Our fostering assessment typically takes 4 to 6 months. An independent assessor carries it out over 6 to 12 visits, and it is shaped around your family.

We cover the costs of the Local Authority checks, the DBS check and the medical check by your doctor. We organise those checks for you. We enrol you on pre-approval training too.

Once approved, it is uncommon for our new carers to wait more than 2 months for their first placement.

How soon that first placement comes depends on a few things. The referrals in your area. Your skills and experience. How flexible you can be.

Our process is thorough. It is measured in months. Time and money should not be the reasons you put fostering off.

If you'd like to talk through the assessment and what happens at each step, get in touch with our team. We're here. 🤝

Do you need to have all the answers right now? Definitely not. It’s what we’re here to help with! ✨

Maybe your house is feeling a little quiet lately.. if you’ve got the ability to open your heart and home? Why not give fostering a try. ❤️‍🩹
