Puzzlewood is a unique and magical forest with a mile of meandering pathways and over 200 steps set in 14 acres of ancient woodland. An otherworldly world within an otherworldly wood 🍄

We’re being treated to quite a show at Puzzlewood right now, captured brilliantly by macro photographer Ryan .uk

Fungi in all shapes and sizes are appearing before our eyes, some so tiny (but incredibly mighty) they’re barely visible.

It’s a wonderful reminder of the fantastic ecosystem always working away in this ancient woodland, breaking down fallen wood and leaf litter and returning them to the forest floor for it to thrive.

Coral fungus, mycena sp - how many different species will you spot ?

It's hard to choose a favourite time of year here at Puzzlewood, but we do love October.

Morning mist lingers in the gullies, fabulous fungi are emerging on fallen wood, and low light through the changing tree canopy makes it even more atmospheric.

This autumn's mild, changeable weather is exactly what our little pocket of temperate rainforest loves, and it's treating us to quite a show 🧡

Open daily in October, 10am–5pm (last entry 3.30pm), with tickets available online and on arrival.

Thank you to your volunteers who came to Puzzlewood and shared information on the important work SARA do for our community.

We are very grateful to Puzzlewood, in the The Forest of Dean, for putting on a Charity Day last weekend with SARA as one of the beneficiaries. A small team of SARA members spent the day there and engaged with many of the visitors, explaining what we do.

We have subsequently received a substantial donation from the team at Puzzelwood, for which we are immensely grateful. The support of the local community means a great deal to us, and helps us to help other people when they need it most.

A huge thank you to Clearwell Caves and Joshuas Catering Lydney for helping us celebrate the end of our summer season!

A fabulous BBQ followed by an underground adventure, with every member of staff choosing the challenging route! Amazing courage, everyone should be really proud of themselves!

To those heading off to university and onto new adventures, thank you for everything you've brought to Puzzlewood this year, and we wish you all the very best and hope you will return to us.

And to those staying on with us through autumn and into 2027, we're looking forward to what's ahead.

Gates close: 5pm

Come and explore, and help support two charities doing such important work in our community.

We look forward to seeing you.
