Today was an incredibly sad and emotional day as we said our final farewell to a very dear friend, Professor David Jones.
We were honoured to join David's family and friends in celebrating his life, listening to so many wonderful stories and memories that reflected the true gentleman he was, the lives he touched and the difference he made to so many.
David was a founding trustee of SDCP and our very first Chair of Trustees. But to us, he was so much more than that. He was a dear friend, a guiding light, a source of wisdom, encouragement and unwavering support. His kindness, belief in others and genuine passion for people and communities helped shape not only the foundations of SDCP, but the values and purpose that remain at the heart of everything we do today.
David was instrumental in establishing our charity back in 2010, driven by a vision of creating an organisation that would put local people first, strengthen communities and make a real and lasting difference to people's lives.
And what a legacy he leaves behind. ❤️
Thank you, David. Thank you for being the driving force behind the creation of SDCP. Thank you for believing in those who served alongside you as trustees, for trusting those to whom you passed the baton onto, and for always supporting, encouraging and believing in the staff & volunteer team.
You didn't just help create a charity. You helped build something with heart, purpose and a genuine commitment to making our communities better.
We hope we have made you proud, and we promise to continue building upon the foundations you laid. We will keep taking each day in our stride, putting people and communities at the forefront of every decision, every service and everything we do.
In a particularly touching gesture, David's family have asked us to establish a donation page in his memory, with donations helping to fund community wellbeing services for local people.
This is a truly fitting tribute to David, whose vision from the very beginning was to ensure that people in our communities could access the support, care and opportunities they deserve.
We cannot thank David's family enough for their kindness and generosity at such a difficult time. We are deeply honoured that they have chosen to continue David's legacy in this way.
Every donation made in David's memory will go towards supporting valued community wellbeing services, helping us continue the work that meant so much to him.
