๐Ÿšจ Could your fire alarm be causing an unwanted fire signal?

When a fire alarm activates and our crews are called out, but there is no fire, this is known as an Unwanted Fire Signal (UwFS).

Every false alarm takes our crews away from other emergencies and could mean we take longer to reach someone who genuinely needs our help.

Common causes include:
๐Ÿณ Cooking fumes
๐Ÿ’จ Steam from showers
๐Ÿงน Dust
๐Ÿงด Aerosol sprays
๐Ÿšฌ Smoking
๐Ÿ”ง Hot works
๐Ÿ”ง System faults
โš ๏ธ Accidental or malicious damage

Businesses can help reduce unwanted fire signals by making sure alarms are regularly maintained, detectors are suitable and correctly located, and staff know what to do before carrying out testing or maintenance.

Help us keep our crews available for when they are needed most.

Every journey matters and so does every decision you make behind the wheel.

Please remember:
โœ… Slow down - speed limits are there to protect everyone
๐Ÿ“ฑ Put your phone away - one distraction is all it takes
๐Ÿšซ Never drive under the influence - alcohol and drugs cost lives
๐Ÿงโ€โ™€๏ธ Look out for vulnerable road users - cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians
๐Ÿ’บ Wear your seatbelt - every journey, every time

Your choices can save a life - maybe even your own.

Letโ€™s keep Northumberlandโ€™s roads safe for everyone.

๐Ÿš’ Joint training, shared learning. ๐Ÿš’

Crews from Amble and Alnwick recently came together for a collaborative training exercise involving a simulated fire in a block of flats, with multiple people reported inside.

Working in three breathing apparatus teams, firefighters were given different objectives to complete a six-person rescue while tackling multiple fires within the building.

Training alongside neighbouring stations helps strengthen working relationships, improve the efficient use of resources and ensure crews can work seamlessly together when responding to real incidents.

๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ‘ป Heading out trick-or-treating? Make sure your costume is as safe as it is spooky.

Before Halloween night, choose costumes that are flame-resistant, carry a UKCA or CE mark, and are bought from reputable retailers. Avoid long trailing fabrics, loose accessories and, where possible, remove drawstrings around the neck area of children's costumes.

If the worst happens and clothing catches fire, remember the lifesaving advice: Stop, Drop and Roll.
