Little Eaton Playground Updates

1. The new basket swing requires further work to it’s footings so will be fenced off from tomorrow for a few days. Apologies in advance for the inconvenience.

2. Playground users will have noticed that part of the slide has been removed. This equipment has been closed since early summer when a Parish Councillor found significant corrosion in several areas. Our village blacksmith is going to attempt to breathe new life into the metalwork and councillors are preparing to replace the rotten steps. As the playground is owned by the Parish we don’t get any central funding like many other local play areas. As a result we have applied for several grants to try and help with the cost of materials. Rest assured the slide will be returned to its former glory but at this stage we don’t know how long the work will take.

The Parish Council have utilised grant money to replace the three existing, open topped, litter bins within St Peter’s Park and add an additional two. To save on costs these have been installed by the council over the last week.

The new bins are larger and enclosed to keep out rain. The bins are emptied twice a week by Councillor Bush, a particularly difficult task when rain water mixes with dog poo bags! Hopefully the upgraded bins will make this task less unpleasant.

The two new bins can be found below the village hall balcony and on the playground beside the lower bench.

The three bins by each park entrance (Duffield Rd, Vicarage Ln & the gate) are owned and emptied by Erewash Borough Council, usually twice a week.

Parish councillors have carried out minor repairs to the base of the monument on St Peter’s Park. Over time holes had appeared and we didn’t want children to get their feet caught and trip.

The new basket swing installation is complete and has already been enjoyed by lots of children today. Whilst the Parish Council managed to redirect some savings over the last year we could not have completed this project without financial help from The Bates Trust and Erewash Borough Council.

We’d like to thank both organisations on behalf of the community and all those who will enjoy using the swing for years to come.

The installation was undertaken by Playbuildprojects who are based in the village and kindly offered to improve the drainage around the tunnels whilst on site at no extra cost. Hopefully fewer soggy knees this winter!

Exciting times at the playground this week. Installation of the much anticipated basket swing has begun.

We are also using this opportunity to improve the drainage of the concrete play tunnels to prevent the build up of mud when it rains.

As a result some areas of the playground will be fenced off this week and contractors will be moving through the area however the unaffected equipment will be open as usual.
