We saw this stat and had to sit with it for a minute: children as young as 6 are now being taken to A&E in mental health crisis. Six years old.
New figures show a 36% rise in under-18s attending A&E for mental health reasons since 2019 — and it's the youngest children, aged 6-9, where the rise is happening fastest. Some are waiting over 12 hours to be seen. Some, over three days. In a department built for broken bones, not broken hearts.
