Ahmad, who arrived in England aged 10 as an unaccompanied minor and was placed into foster care, spent eight months in detention when he arrived.

Just *last week* - as Kabul fell to the Taliban - the Home Office decided to renew his detention pending his removal. Are they not watching the news in the Home Office? Ahmad was told in a letter: “Your case has been reviewed. It has been decided that you will remain in detention to effect your removal from the UK.”

Ahmad has now lived in the UK for almost twenty years - twice as long as he ever lived in Afghanistan. He has made a life here, he has a job, friends, a support network and is also gay. He fears he will be killed if he is forced to return to the country of his birth - where he has no family and no connections.

Boris Johnson promised that deportations to Afghanistan won’t take place, for now. Yet on Tuesday morning Priti Patel’s Home Office *still* claimed Kabul was a safe place to be deported to, despite the government being overthrown by the conservative Taliban, and Ahmad’s deportation still appears to be going forward. Another lie from the Prime Minister?
