This morning, Alex from Outside Clinic joined our coffee morning to discuss the free at-home eye and hearing tests they offer. Several residents were able to book appointments for these tests, which will take place in the comfort of their own homes over the next few weeks. This initiative is particularly helpful for residents who find it difficult to leave their homes, ensuring they can still access these important health checks.

Black History Month 2026 runs throughout October in the UK with this year's theme 'Honouring Our Communities'.
Black History Month was first celebrated in the UK in 1987, organized by Ghanaian activist Akyaaba Addai-Sebo.

October was chosen in the UK—unlike February in the United States—because it aligns with traditional African gathering times for leaders and chiefs, and marks an important period for reflecting on Black British history, including the legacy of the Windrush generation.

The month focuses on celebrating the achievements, culture, and contributions of Black people in Britain, while addressing gaps and underrepresentation in mainstream education and history

We have received reports of a potential scam operating in the area.

Individuals may knock on your door claiming they have lost their mobile phone and that the "Find My Phone" app is showing the device at your address. They may insist that their phone is inside your property and attempt to gain entry or pressure you into assisting them.

✅ If this happens:

• Do not allow anyone into your home unless you are satisfied with who they are and why they are there.
• Speak through a closed door or use a doorbell camera where possible.
• If you do not know the person, do not feel pressured to assist.
• If they become persistent or you feel threatened, call the police immediately.
• If a genuine phone has been lost, the owner can contact the police for advice rather than attempting to enter private property.

Please remember that mobile phone location services are not always accurate and can sometimes show an incorrect location.

Residents, family, and friends gathered for a Macmillan coffee morning and table-top sale this morning. Thank you to everyone who attended for their generosity. Thank you to residents who baked, donated cakes and items for the table top sale. Thank you also to Julie, community coordinator at Asda Sinfin, for their donation of loaf cakes. Total raised so far £124 with donations still coming in. We will update with the final total in the next few days.
