All welcome at the fireside social activity at the Grow Alfreton project garden.
Hot drinks provided, bring your favourite bonfire food to share! (I'm making bonfire toffee) and a torch or lantern.

Grow Alfreton is inviting residents to its community growing hub for a fireside social event featuring hot chocolate, bonfire toffee and an opportunity to meet fellow locals.

What a lovely Over the Garden Fence meet up. My visits to Ripley St John's school go back to my time as an Arts Award advisor when I worked in school and it's always a pleasure to go back.

This time I got to talk about the work I'm doing exploring what environmental action means to children and young people. I'm looking for groups to connect with both in schools and in the community, so please let me know if you'd like me to visit your setting.

And, cherry on top 🍒😊, I got to spend even more time with Lise Bennett Artist making a gorgeous paper lantern. It's always beautiful to get the opportunity to create and connect with others, but extra special with Lise leading the way.

Huge thank you to Sam and Katie of Platform thirty1 for creating this space for us. ❤️

Strangely, had the most amazing two hours in the cemetery today! I always take the opportunity to take a detour through as it's so peaceful and is a haven for nature. Today though, I got the opportunity to really slow down and notice what's really there. The Alfreton & District Heritage Trust have used some of their National Lottery Heritage Funding to put on a series of macro photography workshops. Today was the last one and the first time I'd actually been able to go along. Alongside a lovely group of fellow nature enthusiasts (including and ), I learned how to make better use of my phone camera, using light and composition to capture intricate fungi, insects and other organisms. is a talented natural history photographer who has travelled the world capturing stunning images. Even so, he shared our excitement and joy about our photographs, taken in a little corner of the cemetery in Alfreton. I'm so happy with the photographs that I took under his guidance. Expect even more close-up nature from me from now on!

Now I have circles made from my garden cuttings: privet, willow and ivy. I've a huge pile of privet to work at, I wonder how many I could make?
