Loughs Agency The Agency provides sustainable social, economic and environmental benefits. We do all we can to remove inappropriate material as soon as possible.

We do this through the effective conservation, management, promotion and development of the fisheries and marine resources of the Foyle and Carlingford areas. This page has been established to raise awareness of the Foyle and Carlingford catchments - their tributaries, wonderful biodiversity and promote water-based events and activities. This includes the freshwater streams, lakes and rivers as well as the loughs and along the coast. Our media communications is managed by a third party, please contact Gray’s Communications. Note: This page is not monitored outside normal office hours. If however, you wish to report anything you feel to be inappropriate, please email [email protected]. We want to foster an open and healthy place for conversations. We will occasionally remove posts that contain very strong language along with those which are offensive, abusive or may be defamatory, or which either break the law or encourage others to do so. Moderators reserve the right to remove posts that include strong expletives, sloganeering, repeat posts, commercial waffle, abuse, or comments made in poor taste. Posters who try to personalise or associate our staff with any post/issue, especially contentious ones, will be banned. Posts and profiles will be banned - without explanation - where any moderator feels a line of decency or taste has been crossed. Profiles that the team feel to be online 'trolls' or phantom profiles (nameless, closed or un-named accounts etc) may also be banned. THE LOUGHS AGENCY HAS ZERO TOLERANCE ON VERBAL AND PHYSICAL ABUSE OF STAFF. WE WILL PROSECUTE OFFENDERS THROUGH THE COURTS. MAXIMUM PENALTY - PRISON SENTENCE

🚨 News Update 🚨

During a recent patrol on the River Mourne, Loughs Agency Fishery Officers interrupted an illegal poaching operation and seized a fishing net above Sion Mills Weir.

The incident happened in broad daylight, highlighting that illegal fishing can occur at any time. The swift action of Fishery Officers stopped the net being deployed and protected salmon migration on this key stretch of the River Mourne.

The seizure forms part of ongoing enforcement activity to protect fish stocks and ensure compliance with fisheries legislation across the Foyle catchment. Loughs Agency is committed to identifying, prosecuting and holding offenders fully accountable given the significant threat illegal fishing poses to fish stocks, biodiversity and the sustainability of our waterways.

Members of the public play a crucial role in helping officers prevent and deter illegal fishing. Report suspected activity on the water through the WaterWatch platform: loom.ly/V2xnjQA

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Smart Waters Beyond Borders: Collaboration, Water Quality and Citizens symposium at the Guildhall. 👏

It was brilliant to come together and explore how emerging technologies can support the future of freshwater, fisheries and environmental management across the island of Ireland.

A special thanks to Minister Andrew Muir and Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Grace Uí Niallais, for joining us and sharing their thoughts and insights on the day.
