Fort Burgoyne The Fort was built in the 1860s, to protect Dover Castle. Managed by White Cliffs Countryside Partnership on behalf of Land Trust

Fort Burgoyne was acquired by the Land Trust early in 2014, with plans to restore this unique site and open it to the public for the first time in its history. Fort Burgoyne will be a welcome addition to the community and visitor attractions in Dover and beyond.

🌿Thank you to everyone who joined our Habitat Management course at Fort Burgoyne with

Over two days, we learned practical habitat management skills, discovered ways to support local wildlife, and enjoyed working alongside others who share a passion for nature!

We loved hearing how Green Angels are already putting their new skills into practice, whether that's managing school grounds, improving local habitats, or supporting species such as hazel dormice.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended!

As the autumn sun begins to set behind the ancient walls of Fort Burgoyne, something strange stirs in the shadows…

Whispers tell of a mysterious trail that appears only once a year. Those brave enough to follow it will find themselves on a magical journey through the hidden corners of the fort, where curious characters and spooky surprises await.

Off the trail, the fun continues with Halloween crafts to conjure up creepy creations and mini games to test your courage. With the chill of the evening creeping in, gather around the glowing campfire to toast marshmallows and make delicious s’mores, if the ghosts don’t get there first, of course!

We encourage you to come dressed up in your spookiest costume to help you blend in with the enchanted world you’re about to enter. So, grab your cloak, your witch’s hat and your bravest face and join us… If you dare.

Wood Whittling at Fort Burgoyne! 🪵🍄

Green Angels transformed simple pieces of wood into beautiful mushrooms.

“It was a brilliant, safe and relaxed environment which has boosted my knowledge and confidence!”

A huge thank you to Brad from who created a welcoming space where Green Angels of all experience levels could learn, create, and develop their skills at their own pace.

The biggest takeaway? A common request for a Part 2!

Open Day Update for Saturday 19 September

Due to a change in volunteer availability, our open day this weekend will look a little different this time around.

There will no longer be tours available to book on the day. Alternatively, visitors will be able to explore the lower levels and the casemates independently.

To help you make the most of your visit, additional signage will be in place to mark the walking route and explain the fascinating history of the site. Volunteers will also be stationed in key areas to offer guidance. Please do stick to the marked route; this is for your safety and to ensure that you get the most out of your visit.

Any questions about the history of the site can be answered, where possible, by our volunteer history expert, who will be available throughout the day.
We will also have our popular Fort Burgoyne History books available to purchase by cash or card for £5. This detailed guide covers the history of Fort Burgoyne from its construction onwards and is the perfect reading material following your visit.

Finally, please note that teas and coffees won't be available on this occasion.

Thank you for your understanding regarding these changes. We hope you have an enjoyable and fulfilling visit. These open days at Fort Burgoyne are made possible by the generosity of our volunteers' time. Without them, we would not be able to open the gates and invite you to explore this amazing site.

Please head to the WCCP Gazebo upon arrival, and we will be able to point you in the right direction! We cannot wait to welcome you through the gates!
