Great work by St Colman's PS Kilkeel Eco Council for collecting 41.1kgs of litter from the beach today, including a shopping trolley! Some very keen individuals in the group today filling multiple bags each.
The questions asked are always brilliant - where does plastic come from? How does it affect animals?
We talked about how to 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' and how fishermen bring litter from the sea back to shore, taking part in Fishing For Litter.

Brilliant work by St Nicholas' Primary School Ardglass P5 and Eco-Schools Council! They removed 44.1kgs of marine litter from the beach showing some serious muscle. They know the most effective way they can help is to NEVER LITTER, but doing a beach clean is a great help. Thanks P5!

Marine invasive species!
Sea plants and animals that have come from afar and are causing a problem – we don’t want them in our waters.
Have a look at the poster so you know what to look out for.
Have you found an American lobster?
If you find one, DO NOT PUT IT BACK IN THE WATER, note the location it was found, take photos of it, bring it back to shore and report it.
Report findings of any suspected invasive species here:

Never let plastics, oil or chemicals overboard!
These are pollutants and small amounts add up to have big consequences.
Start a conversation and make sure everyone on your vessel knows that it is never OK to let these hazardous substances overboard.
Rather, take part in Fishing For Litter (removing litter from the sea), beach cleans, and make sure your vessel is properly serviced and not leaking any substances unintentionally.
Please so what you can to reduce marine pollution!

Recycling facilities will soon be available for vessels at all NIFHA harbours!

Please segregate your waste on board and then put CLEAN DRY RECYCLABLES in the recycling bin at the quayside. This must be LOOSE OR IN CLEAR BAGS - not black bin bags. Just like at home.

Recycling reduces waste going to landfill, and products made from recycled materials use less energy and produce less greenhouse gases than products made from new raw materials.

Absolutely brilliant work by P4 St Colman's PS Kilkeel !!
They showed their might by lifting a huge 60.8kgs of litter from the beach in Kilkeel! Incredible.
Thanks for listening so well to lots of information about the sea and what we can do to keep it clean for your future.
