Children of Foster Carers' Week | 12–18 October 2026
Fostering involves the whole family, and this week we want to recognise some of the people whose contribution can sometimes go unnoticed.
The children of foster carers play an incredibly important role in fostering. They share their homes, their parents, their time and often their most personal spaces with children who may have experienced significant difficulties in their lives.
They offer friendship, kindness, reassurance and a sense of belonging. Sometimes it is the everyday things that make the greatest difference; welcoming someone into their home, including them in family activities, helping them settle into new routines or simply being someone they can talk to.
But we also recognise that growing up in a fostering family isn't always easy. It can mean changes to family life, sharing attention, managing difficult emotions and sometimes saying goodbye to children with whom they have formed close relationships.
Their contribution should never be taken for granted, and their own feelings, experiences and needs deserve to be heard and supported.
At Match Foster Care, we see first-hand the difference that the children of our foster carers make. Their compassion, understanding and willingness to welcome others into their lives contribute enormously to the care and stability that fostering families provide.
As this important week comes to an end, we want to say a very sincere thank you to every child and young person growing up in a fostering family, both within Match and across the wider fostering community.
You may not always realise the difference you make, but your contribution matters, and you deserve recognition in your own right.
Fostering is a family commitment, and every member of that family deserves to feel valued.
