Luke, don't insult our intelligence.
This is political virtue signalling dressed up as good news, aimed at people who won't look beyond the headline.
Let's put that Β£100 into perspective.
Based on forecast inflation, the average UK household will face around Β£1,200 more in annual living costs just to maintain the same spending.
So households could be facing another Β£1,200 in costs, and you're celebrating giving them Β£100 back? That's still roughly Β£1,100 more to find. An absolute p**s take.
And that's before considering individual tax changes or differences in household incomes.
Meanwhile, the OBR forecasts:
- 0% real wage growth in 2027 and 2028.
- Just 1% economic growth in 2027.
- The national tax burden rising to 37.9% of GDP in 2027β28.
These are independent forecasts, not any opposition figures.
It's taking from Peter to pay Paul, then expecting a round of applause for handing Peter buttons back.
Rupert Lowe raised the fundamental issue. Britain needs policies that reward people who work, build businesses, create jobs and contribute to the economy. Not MPs celebrating taxpayer-funded handouts while the wider economic picture declines.
Labour was founded to represent working people. You've become so preoccupied with redistribution that you've lost sight of the people creating the wealth in the first place.
Labour increasingly resembles the Welfare Party, not the Labour Party.
Taking from productive britain to buy votes from the unproductive.
You're betraying the original meaning of Labour and the working people you were supposed to represent.
