What do the different colours inside fire sprinkler heads actually mean? 🔥💧

Each glass bulb contains coloured liquid, with the colour corresponding to a particular temperature rating. When the surrounding temperature reaches the sprinkler’s specified level, the liquid expands and the bulb breaks, allowing that individual sprinkler head to activate.

When these systems need servicing or testing, a little coordination can be important.

TP Fire & Security doesn’t install fire sprinklers – they’re handled by specialist contractors. However, our team can work alongside them to isolate the fire alarm system where required while testing takes place.

Once they’re finished, we make sure the alarm is taken off test and returned to full working order.

A coordinated approach helps make sure every system is ready to do its job when needed.

Changes to Awaab’s Law are coming this November.

The next phase will extend the legislation to include fire and explosion risks, as well as a wider range of serious hazards within social housing.

Ahead of the changes, we’ve been making sure our engineers understand what to look out for when working in social housing properties and how any concerns should be reported.

Keeping people safe goes beyond the job in front of you – being alert to potential hazards matters too.

Protecting a modern office from fire is one thing. Protecting a centuries-old building can be quite another.

Listed and historic buildings can combine huge open spaces and high ceilings with delicate interiors, original stonework and architectural features that need to remain untouched. So how do you introduce modern fire detection without unnecessarily interfering with the building?

Wireless systems can help reduce the amount of cabling required, while beam detectors can be particularly useful for large, open areas and difficult-to-reach ceilings. Unlike a traditional smoke detector that detects smoke at a particular point, a beam detector sends infrared light across a much larger space and can identify when smoke disrupts the beam.

We work with solutions including Hochiki wireless detection and Apollo Fireray beam detection, allowing us to consider different approaches depending on the building and its requirements.

When every building is different, its fire protection needs to be considered differently too.

Mission accomplished! 🪂

Yesterday, Callum swapped solid ground for the skies as he completed his charity skydive for the Worcester Warriors Foundation.

A huge congratulations Callum. While the skydive may be done, there’s still time to support his fundraising efforts and help us raise as much as possible.

If you’d like to make a donation, you can do so here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/callum-wilson-tpfire?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=CL

Sadly, Tasha & Jamie have had their skydive postponed for the 25th October, so we'll keep you updated on how they get on.

What happens to the waste we can’t avoid? 🗑️

At TP Fire & Security, responsible waste management covers the whole business – from the office and our field engineers to the work carried out on projects.

Our confidential waste is collected by Shred Station and 100% recycled, while our general waste is managed by Veolia, with 100% diverted from landfill.

When we encounter hazardous waste such as asbestos, we use licensed specialist contractors, including AC Environmental, to make sure it is handled and disposed of appropriately.

TP Fire & Security also holds a waste carrier licence, and we’re currently working towards achieving ISO 14001 as we continue to strengthen our approach to environmental management.

There’s always more that can be done, but making sure the waste we do produce is managed responsibly is an important part of it.

Would you know what to look for when checking a fire door? 🚪

From damaged seals and faulty closers to doors being wedged open, seemingly small issues can stop a fire door from performing as it should.

Today we’re celebrating the people who know how to get the job done.

For National Tradespersons Day, we want to recognise our engineers and the skill, training and experience they bring to TP Fire & Security.

Skilled trades continue to face a shortage of people entering the industry, making it more important than ever to encourage the next generation to consider these careers and give them opportunities to learn from experienced professionals.

A big thank you to all the skilled tradespeople within TP Fire & Security, and to those just starting out on their careers.
