Edinburgh Mobile Library

Our colleague, Neil from Ratho Library retires today, after 15 years in Edinburgh City Libraries, and three and a half of those were spent driving the library bus to provide a library service to the Ratho area while the new building was being constructed.

Here's his old bus signing its card for him.

Happy Retirement, Neil.

P.S. Not making this up - apart from a wee flutter at the start of the day, the old bus has driven and started PERFECTLY all day - until it came to leave Ratho Library after saying goodbye and getting a picture taken with Neil.

Took a good few cranks of the key, and a bit of pumping the accelerator to get it going.

Beginning to think the "Herbie" series was actually a documentary. 😂

✒️📚🏆 We're very proud to have been a part of this project with our friends from Saughton Library and Oxgangs Library! 🏆📚✒️

Congratulations to our fantastic library service which won the Library of the Year Award at The British Book Awards 2026! 👏

The teams at Oxgangs Library, Saughton Library at HMP Edinburgh and the Mobile Library Service were recognised for their Secret Santa Project which provided gift-wrapped books to those in custody so they would have something meaningful to open on Christmas Day 📚
