The Children's Hearing System has been dealing with children and young people in Scotland since 1971, handling cases where interventions might be necessary.

Based on the findings and conclusions of the Independent Care Review, The Promise Scotland has set up the 'Hearing System Working Group': A partnership between Children's Hearings Scotland, Scottish Children's Reporter Administration, The Promise Scotland, and The Scottish Government. This working group has been set up to oversee and guide the redesign of the Scottish Children's Hearing System in line with the The Promise's Plan 21-24 and Change Programme ONE.

The needs of children and families with care experience are at the heart of this redesign process, making sure that the demands of the Independent Care Review and Children's Rights (The UNCRC) will be adequately implemented in the new framework.

The Promise Scotland's Design School - What is it and who benefits from it?

The Independent Care Review found that people with care experience can't get the support they need to thrive if they are not consulted during the design process for such support services in the first place.

This is where The Promise Scotland's Design School comes into play: it offers people with care experience the training and skills required to collaborate and help design public support services of Scotland's care system.

With care experienced people being part of the design process, Scotland will be able to ensure those that need support will get the support they need to thrive as and when they need it 🙌

Plan 21-24 - What are The Promise Scotland's current plans and goals?

Currently, the 3-year 'Plan 21-24' is being implemented and the progress made is being reviewed by The Promise Scotland. The short-term targets, meaning what is happening now, what will happen next, what still needs to happen and whether the progress made so far has been good & fast enough, are all outlined and regularly updated in the live and dynamic 'Change Programme ONE'.

Plan 21-24 is based on the Care Review's findings, conclusions and calls to action. These were summarized in 5 Fundamentals and then translated into 5 Priority Areas. The goals and changes to be achieved over the period of 2021-2024 all have one common end goal: create a country in which care-experienced children are loved, safe, respected and realise their full potential. 💜🧡

There are many harmful stereotypes around children in care and adults with care experience. Often labeled as 'lost causes' or seen as 'permanently damaged', people with care experience are confronted with this kind of stigma throughout their lives. As , we are committed to help drive positive, lasting change.

In line with The Promise Scotland’s 10 principles of intensive family support, we offer non-stigmatising & compassionate support to families in and on the edge of the care system. We build trusting and supportive relationships with families and provide stability and support until they no longer need us anymore.

Volunteering as Trustee is a great way to learn new skills and develop and share one's expertise while supporting a good cause your local community can benefit from. 🙌

Our Trustees are an important part of Home-Start as it is their expertise and guidance that brought us to where we are to day. We couldn't do it without them!

Last month's workshops with Who Cares? Scotland's Carmel Jacob, and 's Claire O'Hara and Michael Wield both part of Home-Start Scotland's learning & upskilling programme for 2022. As we are committed to our role as , developing our expertise around stigmatising language is an important aspect of our journey.

What we say and how we say it matters; especially in the care sector where children have often experienced trauma early in life. The way we speak about care-experienced individuals can have a big impact on them and how they learn to view themselves and the world around them.
