Today Extinction Rebellion Vaal was picketing at Kwaggastroom Train Station at Waterdal/Zone 10 Ext.3 as an awareness campaign against the proposed Glubay coal mines at Vlakfontein, Springfield and Redan Siding at Vereeniging suburbs. The proposed Vlakfontein open cast coal is located 3km west of Waterdal where protesters live. This is going to be a direct daily impact should the proposed Glubay coal mines be given a go ahead. This should also mark a great concern from communities after the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Environment issued an Environmental Authorisation for the proposed Glubay coal mines.
