Stockbridge & Inverleith Local Place Plan – comCensus trial

Our Local Place Plan, so far. Have your say to finish it (2 minutes)

Since the summer, locals have been answering one question: in which of these five areas of local life does Stockbridge & Inverleith most need to act — protecting what we value, or improving what falls short?
From 20 anonymous contributors — posting, debating, agreeing and disagreeing — a shared vision statement has begun to write itself. An extract:
“The community strongly values its unique collection of green spaces, the Water of Leith, and associated paths as the defining feature that gives the area character … … walking and cycling routes, especially the Warriston paths, … require better ongoing maintenance, vegetation management, surface repairs and measures to improve perceived safety … once historic fabric or community assets are lost they cannot be replaced … safeguarding the green and historic assets that define the area while using land-use planning to deliver safer, more inclusive streets.”

The Community Council will submit this as our Local Place Plan (a document the City of Edinburgh Council must take into account when deciding our area’s future) if at least 50 locals take part. Twenty voices have started the plan, but twenty cannot credibly speak for a whole community. We have re-opened the question, so don’t miss this opportunity:

11 residents have started shaping our area's plan. Here's a summary:

🌳 The green spaces, the river and the walkways are what make Stockbridge & Inverleith what it is — more than any shops, buildings or transport links — and protecting them is priority one. The Warriston path was called a hidden gem, an island of peace — and the prospect of a tram across it has raised alarm.

🏛 Our historic streets and buildings reflect who we are — and can never be replaced once lost.

🛍 But on the high street, something's off: pavements crowded with clutter, and shops that increasingly cater to tourists rather than locals.

Agree? Disagree? Is something missing? This plan goes to the City of Edinburgh Council, which must take it into account — and it will only say what YOU tell it.

Communities now have a legal right to write their own plan for their area – a Local Place Plan - https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/local-development-plan-guidance-1/local-place-plans – which the City of Edinburgh Council must take into account when deciding what gets built, protected and improved.

Stockbridge & Inverleith doesn't have one yet. We would like to start one now, and it will be built from what you tell us.

We are asking one question:
