Walking up and around Straiton today:

On This Day, 9th November 1572, Scotland's great reformer John Knox preached his last sermon, which was at the induction of his colleague and successor at St Giles, Rev James Lawson.

It was said his once thundering voice was so weak he could barely be heard. After finishing he descended from the pulpit, and leaning upon his staff and the arm of an attendant for support, he slowly made his way down the High Street for the last time. He was followed by his congregation who wanted a last glimpse at their beloved preacher, all the way to his house, which he would never leave alive again.
