Spotlight on our services: Hospital Housing Clinic
Our Hospital Housing Clinic service plays a vital role in supporting patients as they recover from life-changing illness and injuries, and plan for their move back into the community.
Through one-to-one casework, we remove one of the biggest barriers to discharge; unsuitable housing. By supporting patients to secure accessible homes, the Hospital Housing Clinic improves health outcomes and prevents homelessness.
The service began in September 2024 as a partnership project with the Occupational Therapist Team at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) National Spinal Injuries Unit in Glasgow and has now expanded to the hospital’s neuro rehabilitation, major trauma, vascular and stroke rehabilitation units.
We now run weekly Hospital Housing Clinics at QUEH, the brain injury unit at Murdostoun Rehabilitation Centre and at WestMARC - the West of Scotland's Mobility and Rehabilitation Centre.
We hope, with funding, to be able to expand the service to more hospitals across Scotland so that more patients can benefit from the service.
Our client Annette Barnett was support by our Hospital Housing Clinic while she was recovering from a spinal stroke at The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Annette is now settling into the new home we helped her to find.

The text is a quote from Annette and says "The house I'm in now is like it was made for me and my family are nearby. I'm very, very grateful. If this service wasn't here, I don't know where I'd be or what I'd be". The graphic invites viewers to find out more about the Hospital Housing Clinic.

It's Volunteers Week!
The annual celebration of the massive contribution made by volunteers who give their time and talent to UK charities.
Housing Options Scotland is stronger thanks to the efforts of volunteers through the years and we give our sincere thanks to all those who have helped us to achieve our goals.
This Volunteers Week (1-7 June 2026), we are sharing our Housing Broker Ryan Barclay's reflections on his volunteering experience with us and how it led to him becoming an integral part of our team.

Our ScotGEM Interns, Shula and Racheal, met with some families who were seeking help in future planning for housing for their younger disabled children. The families have been receiving advice on their housing options by Housing Options Scotland’s Making Moves service.
“We had the privilege of sitting down (online) with some families receiving support from Housing Options Scotland. Their courage, resilience, and determination to create a better future for their children were nothing short of inspiring. These stories remind us that independence isn’t just about where you live—it’s about finding a place and community that can help you thrive. 💙🌟 ”

Our ScotGEM Interns, Shula and Racheal, attended Triage with our Housing Options Brokers where they learned more about Housing Options Scotland clients and how we allocate cases.
“Today was all about learning, listening, and mapping out the path ahead! From discussing housing needs to personalised support, we witnessed the first steps of Making Moves, a service that supports disabled people looking to live independently for the first time. We were inspired by how the brokers discuss new clients, case by case, with care and determination to help each individual tackle their challenges. This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see what’s next! 🗂️✨ ”
