👏🏻Community | 📚 Education

The Angus Glens Moorland Group is a collection of rural estates throughout Angus, founded in 2015. The group demonstrates the work these sporting estates and their staff undertake for our countryside, both in Angus and Scotland as a whole, highlighting the positive impact on our local communities and businesses. This includes conservation of rare heather moorland and the wildlife which lives there.

🦌🇬🇧 Celebrating British Game Week!

From grouse and pheasant to venison and partridge, game meat offers a locally sourced nutritious addition to our plates. Naturally rich in protein and a great low fat option, it’s a fantastic example of the quality food our countryside can provide.

This week, we’re shining a spotlight on British game and its benefits, a topic we’re very passionate about! 🌿

📢 Have you had your say yet?

We are strongly encouraging anyone with an interest in shooting, whether directly involved in running or participating in a shoot or supporting the sector through hospitality or tourism, to take part in this process.

It’s vital that the full breadth of perspectives across the rural economy is represented.
Alongside 5 other organisations across the UK, we have asked for more time to allow practitioners to contribute fully, but as things stand, submissions close on 1 November.

Please take the time to submit your comments to Defra and copy in your local MP to help raise awareness of the importance of the sector to your area.

Stern words or post-drive debrief? 👀

A shoot day has a lot of moving parts, with each estate having its own team of keepers working together to keep everything running smoothly.

🕷️🐾 Do you suspect your dog may have sadly passed away from undetected louping ill within the last 10 years?

Awareness of louping ill in dogs is growing, but concerns remain that some cases may have gone undiagnosed.

If you have sadly lost a dog that showed signs or symptoms consistent with louping ill, or know someone who has, please follow the steps below to report the case.

Every report matters. Collecting data on a wider scale is vital in helping Moredun Research Institute better understand the impact of louping ill in dogs and investigate whether cases may have gone undetected.

Please help us raise awareness and share this post so that we can reach as many people as possible.

🥾 The view of the beating team

On average, around 30 people make up the beating team on a grouse day alone!

Add to that the flankers, pickers-up, loaders and minders, drivers, hosts and hospitality teams, all playing their part in making the day happen.

And that’s just one day, on one estate!

🌿 Bear in mind that much of their wages goes straight back into the local economy, supporting rural jobs, local businesses and communities.

🧐 Did you know?

At the end of each shoot day, grouse are separated into old and young birds. 🪶

This is done by looking at features such as wing feather length and beak strength, allowing the gamedealer to identify how many of each age group they have.

Why does this matter? Because age can make a difference to the flavour! Older grouse tend to have a stronger, richer taste, while younger birds are generally milder. 🍽️

World Food Day 🥩 🪶

🏉 The Angus Glens Moorland Group teamed up with Strathmore Rugby Club to create ‘Game For The Game’.

At every home game and hospitality day, the club puts game meat from the local hills on their menu. This alone showcases how the local community can support the rural industry it is surrounded by.

The uptake of game meat on these days shows there is a real appetite for locally sourced, high-quality food, while helping connect people with where their food comes from.

✨ We are delighted to continue this collaboration for yet another season.

🌾💗 International Day of Rural Women

There are so many different roles women play in rural life that often go unnoticed, from supporting farms and estates to running businesses, helping behind the scenes and getting out in the field. All while often juggling family life and keeping things afloat during the busy seasons.

It’s great to see more opportunities for women to get involved in fieldsports, with groups such as The Country Girls UK bringing women together and encouraging more to get involved.

Today is a chance to celebrate the women who do so much for rural life, often without asking for recognition. 🤎

Scotlands Regional Moorland Groups are one of six organisations from across the UK calling on DEFRA to extend the deadline and improve the clarity of its Gamebird Releases call for evidence, warning that stakeholders need sufficient time and clear, evidence-based questions to provide meaningful responses.

A call for evidence of this importance must allow all those affected to engage fully and ensure any future decisions are based on robust evidence and practical understanding of land management, conservation and rural communities.
