Trading Standards are warning about rogue gardeners in the area offering their services. These rogue traders often use high-pressure tactics, offer poor quality work, or charge excessively high prices. Consumers are advised to be cautious and to avoid dealing with doorstep traders, especially those who are not locally established.

Here's what residents should be aware of and how to protect themselves:

• Unsolicited offers:
Be wary of anyone who knocks on your door uninvited and offers gardening services.

• Poor quality work:
Rogue traders often promise good work but deliver shoddy results, or the work is unnecessary.

• Excessive pricing:
Prices charged by rogue traders are often significantly higher than average and can increase rapidly.

• High-pressure tactics:
They may use emotional appeals or threats to pressure you into agreeing to work.

• No recourse:
If you have a problem with the work, you may have no legal recourse because they are not locally established or may not have a legitimate business.

• Get a written quotation:
Ensure you get a written quotation detailing the work, the price, and the trader's full name and address.

• Don't pay upfront:
Avoid paying large sums of money upfront and schedule payments as work progresses.

• Report any issues:

If you feel intimidated or feel you have been a victim of a scam, contact the police or the Trading Standards service.
