On Tuesday 17th November we are hosting a meeting for church representatives who would like to find out more about the proposed new Equiano Way Pilgrimage Route. This 80-mile trail will start at Wincobank in Sheffield and travel to Whiston, Roche Abbey, Bawtry, Epworth, Scunthorpe, Alkborough, South Ferriby and end in Hull, visiting towns and villages in between.
The route is named after Olaudah Equiano (Gustavas Vassa), born a prince in Nigeria, enslaved and bought and sold in the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, escaped his bo***ge, bought his own freedom, wrote his story and walked and worked around Britain and many parts of the world as a well-known campaigner for the abolition of slavery. This story lives on and is a story of challenge and inspiration. The Equiano Way is designed to connect other remarkable stories and histories along the way. The route is a pilgrimage, a journey of significance that gives rise to reflection, not least spiritual contemplation.
If your church is located along the route and you want to find out how you might become involved, contact Sarah Maltby to register to attend the meeting at Epworth Old Rectory at 1.30pm on 17.11.26. Find out more here - https://epwortholdrectory.org.uk/the-equiano-way/

Today is All Saints’ Day, also known as All Hallows’ Day, a time to remember the saints. Tomorrow is All Souls’ Day, when our thoughts turn to those we have loved and lost – the family, friends and people who have shaped our lives, supported us in our work, and whose memories we carry with us.

The word ‘hallow’ comes from the Old English word for a holy person. All Hallows’ Eve, or Hallowe’en, is the evening before All Saints’ Day.

At Epworth Old Rectory, we are conscious of the importance of remembering those who have gone before us. The Wesley family, who lived here, and left a legacy that continues to influence communities around the world.

Thank you Trudy for your contribution to Apple Day - it’s always a joy to have you in our gardens enthusing our visitors!! 🍎🌱

Out of Office - after a very busy time I am taking a few days away from the inside and outside offices.

John Muir captures it 'keep close to nature's heart...and break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods and wash your spirit clean'

I will be back on line later in the week.

Lovely to meet so many people at the marvellous apple day at the Epworth Old Rectory and welcoming you to this page.
