This year's conference will celebrate the power of play in school-aged childcare and explore how high-quality wraparound provision can be inclusive, engaging, and sustainable.

Keynote speakers and supporting workshops will cover the importance of play and the positive impact it can have on children’s development, mental health, the economic importance of having reliable and dependable childcare to enable parents to work or train and much more.

✴ Date: Weds 18 November 2026 (9.30am - 3pm) - Exeter Racecourse

We are pleased to offer this event fully funded to all Devon school age childcare settings who provide wraparound childcare, Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) and access to Early Access Breakfast Club (EABC).

If you are a provider but outside of Devon, the conference is chargeable at £55.

Want to find out more about becoming a Devon Childminder? Our next information session is 7 November 10am - 2.30pm!

Our childminder info session will provide you with the information that you will need to decide childminding is for you.

It includes who needs to register, what you need to consider, set up costs, being self-employed, the Early Years Foundation Stage, Ofsted’s role, signposting to further training and documents and where you can get support.

Did you know that you can work as a childminder in your own home or from another venue?

The training will consist of a 4 hour virtual session (delivered through Microsoft Teams). (you only need to attend one date)

Dates:

✴Saturday 7th November 2026 (10am – 2.30pm) – Microsoft Teams
✴Thursday 21st January 2027 (10am – 2.30pm) – Microsoft Teams
✴Saturday 13th March 2027 (10am – 2.30pm) – Microsoft Teams

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. That’s why ALL school staff must read and understand Part 1 of the Department for Education’s statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education.

LGfl have commissioned translations of KCSIE Part 1 into twelve community languages. These are now available as free, open-access documents for the benefit of all schools.

Is your paediatric first aid training up to date?

We are pleased to let you know that we have dates available on our paediatric first aid training. This 12 hour course is consistent with the criteria set out in Annex A of the EYFS, and will comprise of:

✴6 hours independent study (eLearning)
✴6 hours skills assessment (in person at a venue)

Portage workshop - a small steps approach to learning for children with SEND - 2 day workshop

The Portage Workshop is an introduction to the Portage Approach to working with children with additional needs and their families.

Dates: 9 & 10 February 2027 (9.15am - 4.15pm) - Exeter
(plus follow up session via Teams)

Objectives:
▶Gain practical strategies, ideas and resources that can be used straight away within the home and in settings, to differentiate and provide for children with additional needs
▶Work with and learn from parents and other professionals
▶Develop links and gain access to support from Portage professionals working in the field of early years/SEND
▶Improve everyday practice to the benefit of all children, not just those with additional needs
▶Develop an understanding of how to achieve real, meaningful inclusion in setting
▶Increase confidence in working with children with SEND

The workshop is suitable for Early Years Inclusion Practitioners, Early Years Practitioners, SENCOs, Parents/Carers, Family Hub staff, Foundation Stage Practitioners.
