Coffee and smiles at The Falmouth Hotel!

Part of what we do at FalCare involves supporting people to do more of the things they enjoy. Sometimes that might look like a walk along the sea front (maybe not in this weather though!), sometimes it involves looking around the local charity shops, and in this case, it took the form of a coffee at The Falmouth Hotel.

As we all know, sometimes it’s the simpler moments that bring the most enjoyment!

That first day feeling!

Last week, one of the people we support, David, completed his first shift down at the Maritime Museum in Falmouth.

One benefit of the support we provide at FalCare is access to opportunities in the local community such as work or volunteering. Access to opportunities such as these can help with promoting independence, developing new skills, building confidence, and becoming more involved with the local community, and it's a really important part of what we do at FalCare.

Congratulations, David! We hope you enjoyed your shift, and we're sure we'll see you down at the Maritime Museum soon!

Without our staff, we just wouldn’t be able to do what we do at FalCare.

We always love hearing what the people who work for us enjoy about their job, and feedback like this helps us to continue providing great person centred support to adults with learning disabilities.

Last night some of our support staff undertook People Moving and Handling training at the Learning Zone in Penryn.

Being able to safely move some of the people we support at FalCare is an important part of providing support that protects their comfort, dignity, and overall, their wellbeing.

The team learnt how to safely use and fit a sling before diving into how the hoists work and how to safely use them, helped by live demonstrations before letting everyone have a go for themselves. They also discussed handling belts and how to help someone up from the floor.

Our staff receive regular training in various different disciplines throughout their time at FalCare, helping us to continue to provide outstanding person-centred care to the people we support.

One of the best feelings we get from doing the job we do is when we hear feedback like this from the people we support.

We’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone involved in FalCare. The people we support, their families and carers, our amazing support and admin staff, and the local community. Everyone’s involvement helps us to continue providing outstanding person centred support to adults with learning disabilities, and we appreciate every single person who is part of our community.

We all experience the world via our senses, but the same sounds, light or texture can feel very different from one person to another. Some people may find certain sensations overwhelming, while others may seek more sensory input.

Understanding someone’s individual needs can help us make everyday activities and spaces more comfortable for them.

Sometimes it’s the simple things that bring the most enjoyment.

A really important part of what we do at FalCare, is ensuring that the individuals we support are placed at the centre of their care plan. We take into account their interests, likes, dislikes, goals, and most importantly, the things they enjoy doing.

For some of the people we support, that looks like going for a good walk!

So, the other day, we did exactly that. We headed out for a walk through the woods, breathing in some fresh air and spending time in the beautiful Cornish countryside along the way.

And we agree! Sometimes you can’t beat a good walk in the woods!

Last week, some of the people we support took part in the Shallal show!

Shallal is a Cornwall-based arts charity that brings people together through creativity, celebrating diversity, ability and community through a range of different art forms.

It was amazing to see some of the people we support getting involved, expressing themselves and being part of the performance.

A brilliant experience and a lovely opportunity to celebrate creativity within our local community!

Spooky Season is upon us!!

Recently we’ve been gearing up for Halloween at FalCare (it’s one of our favourite times of year!!)

Everyone has been busy creating Halloween displays at both our Day Centre and The Learning Zone, and we think everything looks great!

Getting creative and helping make our day centres look like this is a great way of helping the people we support to express themselves, develop new skills, and just to have a little bit of fun during the day.
