Councillor Dave Wiltshire

Directions

Councillor Dave Wiltshire The Fareham Independent Group was formed by a group of residents who were tired of Fareham Borough Council not listening to them.

The group has already succeeded in defeating the council on many issues on behalf of the community, including planning, but this exhausting work does not stop the council wasting your money on expensive court action. The Fareham Independent Group means that you can have a voice and an opportunity to determine Fareham’s future, but this requires everyone to participate. If you wait for other people to do something, nothing will change. If the residents are in control of the council, we can decide the future of our town and where the money is spent. There will be no more favours between councillors, no more conflicts of interests or party politics, just working together for the common good. People can no longer say that there is no one to vote for, there is you, the people of Fareham. We believe that front-line council employees do a magnificent job and are hard-working, but the self-interest at councillor and executive level is failing all of us and the front line front-line staff. This was seen in the recent Hampshire County Council guilty finding against the Leader of Fareham Council for multiple breaches of the ‘Code of Conduct’ when processing grants for another councillor. This was our money that was being misused. Thankfully member of the group bravely took action to expose and then stop this. We are all tired of ‘mismanagement’ at all levels of government, we now have the opportunity to end it, by the residents taking back control of power and having a true independent democracy. The group has been inspired by Frome Town Council, where all 17 councillors are members of the Frome Independent Group and the residents have an independent council. Since Frome Independent Group took control of Frome it has won awards for being the ‘best place to live’. The Times stated that it was selected for it’s ‘attractive, creative and energetic community’.

📢 Potholes reported again in Portchester!

I have once again reported the pothole at the junction of Hill Road and Portsview Avenue.

I have also reported a second pothole further down Hill Road, at the junction with The Hillway.

With the wetter weather setting in, I hope Hampshire County Council (HCC) will get these repairs carried out promptly before the road surfaces deteriorate further.

However, it’s not just about filling the holes. We need to see better, lasting repairs. We cannot keep repeating the same cycle of poor repairs failing, only to be patched up again a short time later.

This approach is frustrating for residents and cannot be cost-effective in the long run. We need repairs that last, not just temporary fixes.

I’ll continue to report these issues and push for better standards of road maintenance across Portchester.

🟠 PROTECT HIGH VIEW PARK, PORTCHESTER!

Following two unauthorised encampments at High View Park this summer, Portchester's Liberal Democrat councillors have been working to find a lasting solution.

Cllrs Chrissie Bainbridge, Dave Wiltshire and Paul Nother have been exploring options with Council officers since August, with protective concrete bollards identified as a potentially cost-effective way to prevent further unauthorised vehicle access.

💬 Cllr Chrissie Bainbridge said:

"We've been discussing this with Council officers and the Executive because we know how much High View Park means to local families. We want to see a practical solution put in place.

I've now formally raised the question with the Council: Will the Council consider installing bollards to prevent unauthorised encampments and protect the area? We will have a response at a Council meeting next week."

💬 Steve Shaw, Liberal Democrat candidate for Portchester Wicor, said:

"This is common sense. High View Park should be somewhere Portchester families can enjoy without worrying about unauthorised encampments. Our local councillors have been working on this, and if elected, I'll add my voice to theirs to push for action."

✍️ SIGN OUR PETITION TO PROTECT HIGH VIEW PARK!

We're calling on Fareham Borough Council to prioritise installing protective bollards around vulnerable parts of the park.

📍 Update on the works in The Keep, Portchester

Yesterday, a resident contacted us to raise concerns about the ongoing works in The Keep. Chrissie Bainbridge and I went along to take a look, particularly regarding safety concerns around a broken kerb and the gas works.

While there, we met the reinstatement manager, who was really helpful and took the time to talk us through the work being carried out and the plans for completing it.

✅ The latest update:

* Most of the holes have now been filled, with the remaining areas due to be re-tarmacked today or tomorrow.
* The work team will need to move temporarily to the A27 works before returning to complete the outstanding work.
* The broken kerb stone and part of the corner of Castle Street, outside the Parish Hall, are due to be repaired tonight.

Thank you to the resident who got in touch and to the reinstatement manager for taking the time to speak with us and explain what is happening.
