The Farnham Herald with some good reporting....Waverley clearly couldn't care less about doing anything positive, unless there is some money for a developer. I am planning to write to the Council, asking if a community group could take control of the project and fund the park independently through grants.
Set back for landfill scheme improvements WAVERLEY came under fire from a Farnham campaign group this week, for kicking proposals to improve Weydon Lane’s former landfill site “into the long grass - again”.

Waverley have finally decided that the best thing to do is.....nothing. Let's leave the abandoned dump as it is.

Will Waverley council ever get off their useless backsides and do something, or will they continue to betray their public with neglect and incompetence?

Brambleton Park is part of Neighbourhood Plan as produced by Farnham Town Council. The plan says a soil cap will be needed because of the emissions at the former landfill site. The cap will cost Waverley council £3 million so the chances are nothing will ever be done. Is it needed when the site emits less methane than a few cows? Why not just get on and make some simple beneficial changes now to this embarrassing neglected eyesore?

The proposal to create a Special Interest Group will be discussed and hopefully approved at next Waverley Borough Corporate Overview and Scrutiny Meeting on 24th March 2015.
If it is approved and the SIG is then formed we will have overcome the biggest barrier in creating the new Park and we can begin to make real plans for the Park's future.

Brambleton Park was a topic at Waverley Borough Councils Corporate Overview & Scrutiny Committee on 25th November.
Chairman Pat Frost proposed creating a Special Interest Group in order to discuss fully the options available for the future use of the site. The proposal was approved by the council and is to be submitted to the Special Executive.
This is very welcome news as it means that Brambleton Park is firmly on the agenda and proper plans can be made and discussed with local residents and Waverley, who own and manage the land.
Robert Anderton, Head of Environmental Services at Waverley Council, said today that there has been a Corporate Management Meeting to discuss the latest site report from CGL.
An Executive Meeting is then being held on 21st October 2014.
There will be a press release with proposals for the Park soon afterwards.
A leaflet has been delivered to all homes near to the park to give residents information about the plans for the park, the current situation and links to the website.
We are waiting now for the release of the study by being conducted on behalf of Waverley Borough Council which they have promised will be released by September.

Waverley To Examine Future Public Uses At Weydon Lane, Farnham
Waverley has ordered a study into the condition of a former Farnham landfill site so its future public uses can be considered.
The site at Weydon Lane is used for dog walking but Waverley is keen to see if it could become a park or recreation area in the future following investment.
Managed by Waverley since the 1980s, the site had been used for landfill in the 1970s and early 80s. The area had been capped – a process of using clay to prevent water getting into the landfill and gases escaping – by Surrey County Council. Waverley took over management of the site in the 1980s and the study it has commissioned will look at the condition of the protective cap. It will also explore what work would be needed for the area to be suitable for formal public use.
Cllr Donal O’Neill, councillor responsible for Environment at Waverley Borough Council, said: “The site has a lot of potential but there are also a number of hurdles that need to be cleared before something really positive could be done for Farnham and the surrounding area.
“The site needs to be closely examined. After more than 30 years since it was last used for landfill, now is a good time for Waverley to explore if it can be brought back into formal public use in the future and what level of investment this might require.”
Former landfill sites routinely produce gas and other products as a result of the decomposition of waste. The types of by-products and rates of gas emissions depend on the types of waste in the landfill and the age of the site. Sites closed for 30 years or longer generally produce the lowest gas emissions.
Waverley’s study is expected to be completed by the autumn.
