Our amazing students are nearing the end of their exams with only a few more days to go.
We have been thoroughly impressed with the students so far, they have conducted themselves in a very calm and sensible way.
Some students have asked what happens to the exam papers. They are collected daily by Parcelforce. AQA, the biggest of the exam boards, has put together the following fascinating video to explain what happens after that

Some of our girls in year 9 attended a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) event at Fluor in Farnborough.
The intention was to encourage girls to consider a career in STEM, and look at the many career opportunities available. There were so many engaging activities, which the girls enthusiastically participated in. The first activity may have initially seemed basic, but it was interesting to see the different interpretations of following instructions to draw shapes, without consulting each other. This was followed by seeing images using a virtual reality headset. Employees from BAE systems guided us to imagine being in a submarine, and managing to sleep and eat in very confined spaces using the images. The use of the headset made it very up close and personal. Students used models to demonstrate how pressure would affect upthrust. They also had to calculate how many sausages would be cooked if there were 1,000 crew members in the submarine for 90 days (each person having 2 sausages)! Some of the students had their blood pressure taken for the first time. They all learned how a blood pressure monitor uses blood vessels to give a reading, showing systole and diastole figures. Some fancy bracelets were made using wires, wire cutters and auxiliary plugs. This was a fun way of showing how an engineer would replace wires by hand and not using high technology. Communication and teamwork were tested during the navigation of a robocar and building a support that could hold an unopened can of beans. The students came away with pile of 'freebies' (who doesn't love a freebie?), including seeds inside a pen! The pen can be opened to take the seeds out and plant them. What will the seeds grow into? Time will tell.
Overall it was a fantastic day with delicious food, and it gave the girls a great insight into possibilities of a career in STEM. Thanks to Fluor for their support with this activity!

Well done to Laila S in year 7 who has had some amazing success with Judo outside of school.
Laila is currently ranked second in England in the junior category for her weight group and ranked first in the southern area. Prior to half term, Laila competed for the county and with her team won the gold, making Hampshire the number one southern county team. Laila didn’t lose a single fight throughout the competition. Laila also competed at the London Open over half term.
Well done Laila, we wish you every success and look forward to hearing more about your amazing Judo achievements!
We really enjoy celebrating and sharing student success outside of school with the Court Moor community. Please let us know if your child has success outside of school that you would like to share by contacting [email protected]

⚽Year 9 Girls House Football⚽
The girls have had mixed fortunes with their house football this week.
Only Everest managed to field a year 8 team on Tuesday (pictured), so they won by default. Well done Everest for being organised and ready! 👏
Wednesday was rained off for the year 7 girls, so they will play next week.
Year 10 played today but did not want any photos, unless Mr Hudson managed to sneak some.
Hopefully the weather will play ball at lunchtime tomorrow for the year 8 girls. Make sure all your houses have teams fielded!

⭐A parting gift from our senior students⭐
On the back of the roaring success of the senior students' marathon walk to London, Friends of Court Moor School were able to donate some of the funds raised to purchase twelve new benches. These have been placed around the school in locations chosen by the senior students, and will serve to increase the amount of social spaces for all of our students to use at break, lunch and after school. This is a particularly welcome gesture as we enter the warmer summer months and we look forward to seeing our students enjoying their new outdoor furniture after half term.
Well done and thank you to the senior students for their efforts in fundraising, and to the FCMS for the subsequent donation!
