Last week, our cadets had the opportunity to practise their musical skills on a range of instruments, including the glockenspiel and drums!

They were also joined by our new cadets, who got involved after learning the basics. It was great to see everyone developing their skills, building confidence and working together as a team.

Our cadets are what make our parade nights and events so special. They make us laugh, bring so much enthusiasm to everything they do, and it’s a privilege to watch them grow into such incredible young people.

From giving up their own time to support events, helping with fundraising, and looking out for and supporting their fellow cadets, they truly make a difference to our squadron and our community. We couldn’t be prouder of them!

Would you like to be part of the adventure?

If you’ve enjoyed seeing what we get up to this National Cadet Week, or you’re interested in finding out more about what we do, we’d love to welcome you to join us!

Come along, get involved, make new friends, learn new skills, and create memories along the way.

To celebrate National Cadet Week, 99 Folkestone Air Cadets joined forces with the Folkestone Army Cadets (Kent Army Cadet Force), Folkestone & Hythe Sea Cadets and Folkestone & Hythe Royal Marines Cadets in Folkestone town centre for a fantastic day of community engagement.

Our cadets spoke to members of the public about the many benefits of being part of the cadet organisations, including developing teamwork, leadership, confidence, discipline and valuable life skills.

It was a great opportunity to showcase the positive impact cadets have on young people and the wider community, while celebrating the opportunities, friendships and experiences that being a cadet brings.

As we reach the penultimate day of the very first National Cadet Week, we want to take a moment to thank everyone who makes the cadet experience possible at 99 Squadron.

There are so many people working behind the scenes to give our cadets amazing opportunities, help them develop new skills, build confidence and grow into wonderful young people. Today, we want to recognise just some of those people.

Our Squadron Staff
The people who keep 99 Squadron running week after week. From planning events and organising parade nights to delivering engaging lessons, completing essential admin and making sure every cadet is happy, supported and safe. Your time, dedication and commitment make all the difference.

Our Civilian Committee
For raising vital funds, supporting the squadron and helping us provide opportunities and adventures that our cadets will remember for years to come.

Our Squadron Padres
For joining us each month to support our cadets, take part in their enrolments and help make our parade nights special.

RBL Hythe and Saltwood
For working alongside the squadron, supporting our cadets and helping us provide a range of fantastic opportunities throughout their cadet journey.

Staff Across Region, Wing and Nationally
For providing opportunities beyond the squadron, organising activities and helping our cadets expand their knowledge, develop their skills and challenge themselves in new ways.

Our Cadets’ Families
For the encouragement, support and countless journeys that make it possible for our cadets to attend activities, take on new challenges and make the most of everything on offer. Especially all the early morning help to get cadets to events.

Everyone Else Who Supports Our Cadets
To every individual who gives their time, offers support, raises funds, opens doors or simply encourages our young people to be the best they can be....thank you!

Every opportunity, every new skill learned, every challenge overcome and every achievement celebrated is made possible by a team of people who care.

National Cadet Week is a chance to celebrate not just our cadets, but everyone who helps make their journey possible.

From all of us at 99 Squadron, Thank you!

Yesterday the cadets got to explore genuine World War 2 artifacts. Starting the evening with an engaging talk about the items by the guest speaker, bringing history to life with demonstrations, including an air raid siren. The cadets even had the chance to ring the ARP (Air Raid Precautions) bell!

Following this, the cadets were free to explore and handle the artefacts themselves. They tried on wartime helmets, had a go at wearing the famous Oxford bags glasses, and got up close to aircraft parts from iconic planes such as the Supermarine Spitfire and Hawker Hurricane, along with many other fascinating items.

A huge thank you to our guest speaker for sharing their knowledge and giving our cadets such a memorable and hands-on evening.

Being a cadet is about so much more than marching and uniforms, it’s about learning skills for life.

Cadets learn practical skills such as: map reading and navigation; how to use a radio; first aid; DIY and practical skills

They also develop valuable soft skills, including: communication; time management; problem solving and leadership

Many of these skills can be seen through the badges cadets wear proudly on their brassards.

And it doesn’t stop there! Many of the courses and badges cadets work towards also provide nationally recognised qualifications, giving them achievements they can take forward into education, employment and future careers.

This National Cadet Week, we’re celebrating the opportunities, experiences and skills that cadets gain, helping young people build confidence, develop their potential and prepare for whatever the future holds.

Today, as part of National Cadet Week, the theme is “Cadets Save Lives.”

As a cadet, you learn valuable first-aid skills that can make a real difference in an emergency. From treating minor injuries to responding calmly when someone needs help, first aid is an important skill that could one day help save a life.

Being a cadet isn’t just about learning new skills, it’s about being prepared, helping others and making a difference in our communities.
