The PVG scheme is at the heart of safeguarding in Scotland. 🛡️

As part of our commitment to a modern, responsive and proportionate PVG scheme, we're delivering a fast, digital service, five-year PVG scheme memberships, and continuous monitoring of an individual's suitability to work in regulated roles. ✅

Together, these contribute to a safer Scotland. 🤝

Find out more about the PVG scheme and our corporate strategy at disclosure.gov.scot.

Disclosure Scotland is urging tutors across Scotland to check their legal requirements under the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme, ahead of the prelim exam season that typically runs from November to February.

Parents, carers and guardians who hire a tutor privately are classed as personal employers. Disclosure Scotland is advising them to ask any prospective tutor to share their Confirmation of PVG scheme membership with them before engaging them to support a student.

In some self-directed support arrangements, there may be no organisation or employer able to make a referral to Disclosure Scotland if serious safeguarding concerns arise.

That's why referral powers for councils and Integration Joint Boards were introduced under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020.

Two years on, we're reminding organisations about these important powers and when they may be used to help protect children and protected adults.
