On the 20th of January, the squadron was delighted to welcome the Lord Lieutenant for Glasgow to the squadron in order to present CWO Baruah with her Lord’s Lieutenant cadet award.

CWO Baruah said It was an exciting night and a chance to properly meet the Lord Provost who I had met at events previously but not yet had a chance to properly speak to. It was a privilege to have the Lord Provost visit the squadron and for the cadets to find out her role and what she does.

I am still extremely honoured to be the Lord Lieutenant’s cadet and to represent the RAFAC. I have thoroughly enjoyed the events I have attended so far and look forward to future ones too.

2026 will see 8 Sqn start to operate the Wedgetail aircraft, and they will be doing so from a very smart new facility at RAF Lossiemouth. 😎

But, this facility needs a name and we want YOU to choose it 👀

Comment your suggestions for ‘8 Squadron HQ’ below and you could be naming the new home of the Wedgetail aircraft!

Deadline for suggestions is the 15th January 2026.

(P.S. I have already suggested Wedgey McWedgeface 😉)

Today the squadron joined with other RAFAC squadrons from across the west of Scotland to commemorate the fall from all conflicts.

‘They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.’

This Saturday, 7 of our cadets volunteered to do Poppy Scotland charity collection at our local Tesco in Maryhill. We had loads of donations and lots of fun, as well as enjoying some lovely chats with the public.

Great to see CWO Baruah meeting the New Chief of the Air Staff, in his first few days in post, while under taking her ACPS course in Norther Ireland.

A busy 2 days supporting the RAF TOWN SHOW in Bangor.

Last week, our NCO team were at the Glasgow cathedral for VJ Day.

CWO Amie Baruah is the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for Glasgow and was asked to accompany the Lord Lieutenant while representing the RAFAC.

Sgt Charlie Humphreys and Cpl Scott Watson were asked to carry the standards for the Royal British Legion Scotland and they all did amazing.

VJ Day is a day for remembering those who made great sacrifice during the Second World War, we are proud to see that our cadets have achieved this much and we are excited to see what the future holds.
