I have been speaking with Police and Community Safety Officers at ERC over the past week, about the extensive incidents of vandalism happening in Maidenhill.
The Inspector has confirmed to me today that they are following positive lines of enquiry and are progressing these.
I have asked for, and they have agreed to, give the area extra attention over this week and the Easter holidays.
ERC Community Safety teams will liaise with police to provide extra attention also.
I am aware of the other incident today, not connected with vandalism, which will be dealt with separately by Police, for which enquiries are ongoing.

🔥 EXTREME WILDFIRE RISK 🔥

Scotland faces a very high to extreme risk of wildfire from Wednesday 2 – Monday 7 April. With dry vegetation and warm weather, fires can start easily, spread rapidly, and burn intensely.

🚫 Please avoid lighting any outdoor fires this week
🚶‍♂️ Enjoy the outdoors responsibly—most wildfires are caused by human activity.
⚠️ Stay alert: Dry vegetation acts as fuel for fire, making conditions even more dangerous.

A great ( if wet!) afternoon at Clarkston, watching 11 of our local young people being presented with their certificates for completion of their week long fire skills course, by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. The young people learned many new skills, which they ably demonstrated today. An excellent collaboration between Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Police, Scottish Ambulance Service and ERC.

A great example of why we recommend closing internal doors before you head to bed. Closed doors can help reduce the spread of fire and smoke, keeping your escape route free.

What a fabulous evening, celebrating the many and varied achievements of our East Renfrewshire young people. From sports to the arts, community service, advocacy and many other amazing successes. Truly inspirational.
( ignore the wine glasses. We were served sparkling water only FYI)

Thank you to the Scottish Women’s Convention for a fab day of women, celebrating women and our achievements. Great line up of speakers and thought provoking discussions.
This year’s theme was “Gie’s peace”. One of the most interesting facts was that, according to the UN, if women are invited to the table, peace is 20% more likely to last two years and 35% more likely to last at least 15 years. Now how could we fix that🤔
Given the precarious state of the word just now…

I sent Roads a list this afternoon of all the trees I was aware of in the Ward that were dangerous or blocking pavements, roads etc. They were working through the ones reported to them throughout the ERC area today. If any have been missed or there are more over the weekend, please report directly to RALF on 0800 373635 and they will pass it directly to the standby supervisor. ERC teams are out over the weekend for the clean up operation.

❗️Important email update from First Bus ❗️

Good evening,

Following on from today’s red weather warning and after continual monitoring of storm damage and debris on and around roads across Greater Glasgow, we have taken the decision not to resume services for the remainder of today (24th January).

This decision has not been taken lightly, but the safety of our people and passengers remains our utmost priority.

Our activity is now focused on resuming services tomorrow morning in line with our scheduled timetables, but we may experience some residual disruption as a result of the prevailing weather conditions.

Our passengers will be able to stay up to date on the status of our services through our website and Twitter/X feed. We thank everyone for their continued patience and understanding during these challenging circumstances.

Kind regards

Robert Burns
Stakeholder Engagement Officer
