✨ Did you know your school qualifications travel with you around the UK?
One of the best things about studying in the UK is how portable your qualifications are. Move from Scotland to England or Northern Ireland (or vice versa), and you’re not starting from scratch — there’s a clear system to compare them.
Got a Higher? That's comparable to an A Level in England & NI.
Got a Nat 5? That's comparable to a GCSE (grades 9–4).
Qualifications a bit older? We've included Standard Grades and Intermediates too!
So wherever you go, your achievements still count 💪
Save this for later or share it with someone planning their next move 🎓

🎓 Confused by how older Scottish qualifications compare to newer ones?
Our diagram shows where qualifications like Standard Grades & Intermediates sit on the Scottish Credit & Qualifications Framework (SCQF).
No matter when you studied, your learning still counts.

From Brownie leaders to befrienders, volunteers play a vital role in keeping communities thriving across Scotland — and is the perfect time to celebrate them.
At the SCQF Partnership, we’re passionate about making sure all learning counts. Skills and knowledge gained through volunteering deserve to be recognised and can help support progression into education, training and careers.
Thinking about returning to education? Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) can help formally recognise the learning and skills you’ve gained through volunteering and other experiences.
RPL could help you:
▫️Gain entry to college or university courses, even if you don't meet the admission requirements
▫️Gain exemption from modules - so you don't have to repeat learning
▫️Access advanced entry to university courses - you could start in 2nd, or even 3rd year
Recognition of Prior Learning is a powerful way to reflect on the learning that happens outside formal education — because learning happens everywhere.
