I didn’t join the RAF Air Cadets to boost my CV, but it did.
I didn’t expect to find new friends, build real skills, and discover a sense of purpose, but I did.
I came to help teenagers grow. What I didn’t realise was how much I’d grow too.
I’m a Civilian Instructor. I started with no uniform, no military background just a willingness to help. And I found more than I ever expected.
I found confidence. I found purpose. I found a community that lifts each other up.
Volunteering here has made me a better communicator, a stronger leader, and a more confident version of myself. I’ve learned how to plan lessons, mentor young people, and work as part of a team. All skills I use every day in my job and in life.
The best part? It fits around my life. Whether I’ve got time to volunteer a little or a lot, I can dial it up or down depending on work, family, or whatever life throws my way.
There’s no pressure just support, encouragement, and a shared mission.
I’ve had the chance to support camps, deliver training, and even explore specialist areas like aviation, STEM, and sports. And if I want to take it further, there’s a pathway to become a uniformed member of staff.
It’s not just volunteering. It’s a journey.
One that grows with you, supports you, and celebrates what you bring.
If you’ve ever wanted to make a difference, and grow while doing it, this is your chance.
Join us. Become a Civilian Instructor by checking out where you nearest squadron is https://www.raf.mod.uk/aircadets/find-a-squadron/
You don’t need a uniform. Start your journey. Strengthen your future. Make it unforgettable.
