Hello everyone,
A couple of weeks ago, some of us met and had a debrief about last year and discussed our goals for the foreseeable future. We all agreed our immediate and long-term goal is to spend more time doing outreach, especially focusing on community events and engaging or re-engaging new, existing and past members of the campaign and beyond.
We need more people coming to meetings to be able to organise more successfully. We need to engage with the community more effectively.
In a hope to recruit more active members, our next meeting will be THIS MONDAY, 7TH MARCH, online, on Zoom.
Here is an eventbrite to sign up : https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/.../still-game-for-the...
I hope to see many of you there and revitalise this campaign!
Solidarity,
Juliette

Glasgow Housing Association are asking tenants in the Wyndford high flats how excited they are about their own homes being demolished!
While we advocate for the building of new, high quality, environmentally sound housing that doesn't require demolishing perfectly good flats, currently housing 600 people.
We are taking a leaf out of GHA’s book and asking what your favourite thing about the demolishing of your home 🧱 would be?
😮=Not knowing where you’ll live now
😡= Being treated like you are powerless
ðŸ˜= Being removed from the only community you know.

Today we started a new bed, planting all the freebies from yesterday.
Hard work in rubbish soil but they’re looking pretty good.
Chamomile went in the raised planters, so there’ll be tea for all soon enough.
The last picture shows the level of saturation in the Valley earth. We’ve almost got ourselves a well...
Thanks also for the donation of seeds. Lettuce is in the ground and should be edible in the new year.
Lots more to do next weekend if anyone can get along.

Mags and I have just picked up 3 tubs full of little bedding plants
We’re gonna need a big team out tomorrow to help get them in the ground before they die!
Come and get stuck in, there’ll be gloves provided.
Also wanna do a callout for any kind of container / lockup. We need somewhere to store the tools since the White House is out of action and we can’t rely on mags to keep lugging them around in their van. If you can help let us know.

Saturday gone/ Saturday coming:
Mags and I planted some more gorgeous donations courtesy of of West End Garden Centre.
We also laid a bit more stonework to house some of the new plants, and put some delicious herbs in the ground.
We've got loads of bulbs to plant up this weekend. It'll need a fair few arms so pop along on Saturday from midday onwards to get stuck in.
There'll also be a film crew there at about 2pm to chat to people about a documentary on housing across Glasgow and Scotland, so come along if you want to tell them how you feel about the land at Collina Street.

On Sunday, we joined Living Rent Glasgow members and Still Game For The Valley campaigners for the launch of the Collina Street Community Buyout.
We learned about the history of Collina Street, the recent success in stopping Glasgow City Council from selling public land to private developers, the current communal usage of the land, and the campaigners and residents’ hopes for the future of Collina Street.
We look forward to learning more and to following them on their journey!

Thanks to everyone who turned out today to hear about the next phase of the campaign for social housing through a community buyout. More photos and media to come!
