📚As part of Glasgow International Festival of Contemporary Art 2026 () the Mitchell Library’s Glasgow Room is open for you to visit an exhibition by Glasgow based artist Irineu Destourelles (.destourelles).

📙This historic setting houses ‘Faint Light of the World with Contradictions’, an ambitious multi-channel sound and video composition with evolving monochromatic projections across four walls. The work translates tension into an immersive sculptural installation. Film stock sound effects intertwine with fragments of colonialist and anti-colonialist films from African and Western traditions, exploring how ideology is carried not only through narrative but shared cinematic language.

📘This is a new commission from .scotland, co-curated by Tiffany Boyle (Head of Programme at Outer Spaces) and Natalia Palombo ().

📖Open now until 20 June
Monday - Saturday: 10:00am – 4:30pm
Tuesday & Thursday (Late Opening): 10:00am – Until 7:30pm
Please note the Mitchell Library is closed on Sundays.

Got an unused instrument at home? Let us give it a second wind… or strum… or pluck…

In May, with the support of Music Education Partnership Group (MEPG) and the We Make Music Instrument Libraries network, Glasgow Life Libraries relaunched our musical instrument lending service at The Mitchell and Ibrox Library. The response has been incredible... Glasgow Life Library members have borrowed every single instrument stored at The Mitchell Library!

Instruments can still be reserved and borrowed, but to keep the music growing we need your help. If you have an instrument that deserves a second life, please consider donating it. We welcome all instruments except acoustic pianos and drum kits (they’re too big for our shelves).

How to donate: Simply drop your instruments off at The Mitchell or Ibrox Library.

📅 A quick reminder that our venues will be open as normal on Monday 15th.
