🔍 Step into a world of mystery at the Mitchell Library!

Join a free guided tour of our new exhibition, Agatha Christie: A World of Mystery. A member of our curatorial team will reveal stories behind the fascinating items on display and our wider collections, alongside British Library panels exploring Christie’s iconic characters and writing process.

Tour dates:
📅 Thursday 29 October, 3pm–3.30pm
📅 Saturday 31 October, 1pm–1.30pm
📅 Saturday 7 November, 1.30pm–2pm
📅 Saturday 14 November, 11.30am–12 noon

Pollok Library brought together two customers from different generations—and sparked a wonderful friendship. When Ruby (now 19) and Helena (now 82) got chatting in the library one day, Ruby mentioned that she wanted to learn Latin, Helena had studied Latin and offered to teach her, and the pair began meeting every Tuesday at the library.

After Ruby earned a place at the University of Glasgow, Helena—who had studied there and lived in the West End—began showing her around the area to help her prepare for university life.

Their story is a lovely reminder that libraries are about so much more than books—they bring people together, encourage learning and create lasting connections.

To celebrate how the library brought them together, they wanted to take a day out to tour the Mitchell Library and we were delighted to welcome them along recently.

Join us at The Resource Unit for Vision Impaired People (RUVI), based at The Mitchell Library, for a special presentation and live demonstration from HumanWare, a global leader in assistive technology.

🔎 COMING SOON: An exhibition celebrating the life and work of Agatha Christie!

Step into the fascinating world of the bestselling novelist of all time and discover the stories behind the Queen of Crime. From much-loved characters Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple to Agatha Christie’s lasting influence on crime writers today, this exhibition invites you to uncover the secrets of her enduring appeal.

It will feature rare editions from our X-stock fiction collection, a wall of Collins Crime Club books through the decades, selections from our vast periodical holdings and a chance to read letters between Christie and her publisher Billy Collins, reproduced from the HarperCollins Archive.

This Hallowe’en the Special Collections department is serving up some dark fairytales on level 5 of the Mitchell Library!

Kids and parents are invited to come and join us as we listen to stories illustrated by Arthur Rackham. Enjoy the pictures he painted, then create your own spooky stories in our crafting session with badge making and drawing sheets!

Hallowe’en costumes encouraged but not required. We hope to see you soon!

RNIB will be hosting a Products and Services drop-in session at the Mitchell Library on Wednesday 11 November, from 10am to 2pm.

Taking place in the Resource Unit for Vision Impaired People (RUVI), based at The Mitchell Library, this session is a great opportunity for service users to explore and try out a range of equipment and technology available from the RNIB Shop.

Join us at the Mitchell Library on Tuesday 3 November for a special evening of poetry, conversation and reflection during 'To Absent Friends Week' (1-7 November).

Poet and writer Kathrine Sowerby and our Death Café facilitator will explore how poetry and stories can help us remember loved ones, celebrate their lives and keep memories alive.

You can also explore our reading list on death, dying and bereavement, or join the Mitchell Library’s regular Death Café hosted by Creating Conversations CIC.
