Feeling that autumn chill? 🍂

The temperature is starting to drop, and you might be reaching for a portable heater for the first time in a while.

Before you switch it on:
🔥 Keep it well away from curtains, furniture and anything that could catch fire
👕 Never use it to dry clothes
🔌 Plug it directly into a wall socket
🚪 Keep heaters somewhere they can’t be knocked over

A little warmth is welcome. A fire definitely isn’t.

Big Halloween night planned next week? 👻🎃

Sort one thing before you head out: how you’re getting home.

🍻 If you’re drinking, don’t drive
🚕 Book a taxi or check your bus home
🚗 Choose a designated driver
🏠 Or make plans to stay the night

Have a frightfully good night, but make sure the journey home isn’t the scary part. 👻

🏡 What's the one thing in your home that could wake you up and save your life tonight?

Your smoke alarm.

It takes seconds to test, but in a fire those seconds could make all the difference.

Before you head to bed tonight:
✅ Test your smoke alarms
✅ Make sure escape routes are clear
✅ Check everyone knows how to get out

If a fire starts: get out, stay out and call 999. 🔥

🏠 Planning fireworks at home? Give your neighbours a heads up.

Unexpected fireworks can be distressing for some people and animals, so letting those around you know in advance can make a real difference.

And when it comes to the display itself, only adults should handle fireworks and they should be kept safely in a closed box until they’re needed.

A little preparation can make for a safer, more considerate celebration. 🎆

🎃 It's nearly time for Halloween! Have you got your little ones’ costumes sorted? 👻

When you're getting ready for trick or treating, remember to help keep them safe in the dark:
✅ Use bright or reflective clothing
✅ Take a torch so they can be easily seen. 🔦

And don't forget about fire safety. 🔥 Some fancy dress costumes can catch fire, so keep children and their costumes away from candles, bonfires and other naked flames.

Have a fun and safe Halloween! 🎃

The clocks are going back this weekend, and darker journeys are here. 🌙

Whether you’re behind the wheel, cycling or walking, make sure you can see and be seen on Gloucestershire’s roads.

💡 Wear bright or reflective clothing
🚲 Use lights when cycling
🚗 Check your lights are working and keep them clean
🚶 Take extra care around crossings and junctions

A few simple checks can help reduce the risk of a collision.

Be bright. Be seen. Stay safe. ❤️

Our latest His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) inspection has recognised significant progress across Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, with five areas now rated Good.

HMICFRS independently assesses the effectiveness and efficiency of fire and rescue services. The improvements recognised in its latest inspection help ensure we’re providing the best possible service for the people of Gloucestershire.

A huge thank you to colleagues across GFRS and the wider council whose hard work and commitment have contributed to this progress. We’re proud of how far we’ve come, but we know there is still more to do.

🚨 Did you know smoke alarms have a 10-year lifespan? Even if your alarm seems to be working, check the date on the back of the smoke alarm - if it's over 10 years old, it's time to replace it!

Let’s keep our homes and loved ones safe—test it, check it, replace it.
