🚨 Darker Nights, Brighter Security 🚨
As the darker winter months draw in, we typically see an increase in certain opportunistic crimes, including residential burglaries and thefts from motor vehicles. Criminals often take advantage of the longer hours of darkness, unsecured property, and valuables left on display.
We're encouraging residents to take a few simple steps to help protect their homes, vehicles and belongings this winter.
🏡 Burglary Prevention
✅ Ensure all doors and windows are locked, even when you're at home.
✅ Use timer switches on lights to make your property look occupied when you're out.
✅ Keep keys, handbags and valuables out of sight and away from doors and windows.
✅ Consider installing CCTV, video doorbells or security lighting.
✅ Keep side gates locked and secure sheds, garages and outbuildings.
✅ Ask trusted neighbours to keep an eye on your property if you're away.
🚗 Theft From Motor Vehicles
✅ Always lock your vehicle and check it has secured properly.
✅ Remove all valuables, including bags, mobile phones, wallets and tools.
✅ Never leave items on display, even for a short time.
✅ Park in well-lit areas where possible.
✅ Use steering wheel locks and other vehicle security devices.
✅ Make sure keyless vehicle keys are stored securely inside your home and consider using signal-blocking pouches.
