In our latest Surrey Arts customer survey, 87% of respondents said music lessons had a positive impact on wellbeing, while parents regularly described music as a positive outlet for emotions, a source of confidence, and a "happy place" where young people can be themselves. Many also highlighted how music helps to reduce stress, improve focus and support mental health.
Whether it's learning an instrument, performing and singing with others, or creative activities, music helps people connect, grow in confidence and support their wellbeing.๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŽต

๐ŸŽถ The Surrey Primary Singing Festivals 2027 are underway! ๐ŸŽถ
Preparations have officially started for next year's festivals, and we're excited to reveal an incredible line-up of 11 contemporary songs that will be performed by more than 3,600 children from 106 primary and special schools across Surrey.
Last week, our new Musical Director, Greg Link, introduced the repertoire to over 60 teachers at free CPD sessions in Guildford and Reigate, helping schools get ready for an unforgettable festival season.
From pop, musical theatre and film music to beatboxing and spoken word, the 2027 programme celebrates a wider variety of vocal styles than ever before, giving more children opportunities to find their voice and develop a lifelong love of singing.
We're also delighted to be partnering with Sing Up for the first time, giving schools access to fantastic teaching resources to support their learning in the run up to the Festivals.

๐ŸŽญ๐ŸŽถ RBO Singing Day at Merstham Park School ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽญ
What an incredible day of singing, storytelling and musical discovery! โœจ
Over 260 Year 5 and 6 pupils from six local primary schools from the Redhill/Merstham area came together at Merstham Park School on 16 September for a special workshop led by artists from the Royal Ballet and Opera (RBO).

The children explored how stories can be told through music, learning about the characters and plot of Mozart's The Magic Flute before singing an aria from the opera themselves. ๐ŸŽผ
The day also featured a fantastic performance by Merstham Park School students, who sang a song from their recent production of Annie. They then took part in an inspiring singing masterclass led by RBO artist Elinor Moran and theatre director Freya Wynn-Jones, accompanied on piano by Phoebe Tak Man Chow. ๐ŸŽน

This exciting event marks the beginning of a new partnership between the Royal Ballet and Opera and Surrey Music Hub, helping to embed singing in the curriculum and inspire children to continue singing as they make the transition from primary to secondary school. ๐ŸŽต๐Ÿ’™
