Cornish Seal Sanctuary Cornwall's most heartwarming story... See and hear about the resident animals and learn about their stories.
(2064)

Bring the family for a day at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary and learn about our work to ensure the safety and wellbeing of seals around Cornwall’s coastline. Based in Gweek, commanding panoramic views of the Helford River, the sanctuary is dedicated to seal rescue, rehabilitation and release, as well as raising awareness of how plastic pollution has affected our marine life in Cornwall and also provides a forever home to animals needing permanent specialist care from our team of experts. Meet the rescued seal pups going through rehabilitation during pup season in the winter, before being returned to the wild. Explore woodland walks with your four- legged friends, and get a bite at the café.

*Safety plea*
Seals spend around 40% of their time hauled out on beaches. In this stormy weather many seals and young pups will haulout looking for shelter and a rest from the weather. Please give them space! Just because they're hauled out does not mean their in trouble! Please stay 100m away, keep your dogs back, its their home too!
If you are concerned please give us or BDMLR a ring, send photos (taken from afar) and give us a what3words locations so we know exactly where to go. We'll get someone out as soon as we can! Please stay safe and ride out the storm. Thankyou! 🦭🦭

We are very excited to share that Javis is recovering well following his successful eye surgery. 🎉

Last week Jarvis underwent the specialist procedure to remove cataracts that had severely impaired his vision. He is now resting comfortably under the close supervision of our expert animal care team.

Early signs are extremely encouraging, with Jarvis already showing positive progress as he begins his recovery journey. The team have seen him looking up at the night sky!

A massive thank you to our supporters for funding his eye surgery.

With a special thanks to Claudia and her team Edinburgh’s Veterinary School for making this operation possible.

Visitor Update for Thursday 15th & Friday 16th October

This Thursday and Friday, some areas of the sanctuary will be temporarily closed while our veterinary team carries out two important procedures for seals in our care.
Jarvis will be undergoing his long-awaited cataract operation, which could help restore his sight, while Logs will be receiving essential dental treatment.
To give our vets and animal care teams the quiet space they need to perform these delicate procedures and support the seals during their recovery, certain areas of the sanctuary will not be accessible to visitors at times throughout both days.
Talk times may also be changed.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding. These procedures are an important part of the specialist care we provide to our resident animals.

Please join us in wishing Jarvis and Logs the very best of luck!

We're delighted to welcome two very special new temporary residents to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary - beavers Steve and Terri!
Named in honour of conservation icons Steve and Terri Irwin, these young beavers represent hope for the future of beaver conservation in Britain.

Working with Beaver Trust, our Sanctuary provides a safe 'halfway house' for rescued beavers. In our 4-acre enclosure, they can recover, develop natural behaviours and prepare for their future release back into the wild as part of a national reintroduction programme.

Steve and Terri have already begun settling into their new home in our nursery and we can't wait to watch their antics over the coming months.

A huge thank you to Beaver Trust, Five Sisters Zoo and everyone involved in helping them safely reach Cornwall.

Keep an eye on our channels for updates!
