On-Call Firefighters at Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) provide a 24 hour emergency response service for fires, road traffic collisions and other serious incidents. 🚒🚨🔥 As well as delivering an emergency service we also deliver a range of prevention and protection activities aimed at reducing fires and other incidents, including the enforcement of Fire Safety legislation. 🧑‍🚒🛡️🧯 Have you got what it takes? 💪🌟🔥

The On-Call element of Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service is fundamental to our emergency cover across the county. 🌍🚨🚒 On-Call firefighters are a group of community spirited people who are ‘on-call’ to respond when their pager bleeps, having been called into action by our Fire Control Centre where 999 calls are handled. 📟📞👨‍🚒 Many of our On-Call firefighters have other jobs and provide important fire service cover during weekdays, evenings and weekends. 🗓️🌃🌅

We've been called out to commercial building fires, house fires, standby duties, grass fires, bonfires, assisting East of England Ambulance service and attending road traffic collisions. It's been a busy one for the crew—hopefully next month will be a bit quieter. Stay safe, everyone! 🙏🚒

20th August 2026
Another fire call for the Harpenden crew — this time, yet again, to a bonfire.
With the ground and vegetation so dry at the moment, bonfires can quickly get out of control and put extra pressure on our emergency services.
🔥 Please don’t have bonfires at the moment.
Stay safe and help us keep the community safe. 🚒

Across the country there have been more than 1,000 wildfires already this year, the highest number on record.
One spark can have devastating consequences. Please do not to use disposable barbecues, fire pits, garden incinerators or fireworks at this time. Even a small flame can spread rapidly and lead to a serious wildfire, putting people, property and the environment at risk.

16th August 2026 at 13.30 hours

A driver was travelling down the road when they noticed a large amount of smoke coming from a front garden. 💨🔥
Harpenden fire crew was called out to investigate, only to find that it was a bonfire. 🚒🔥
Please do not have bonfires at this time of year. With the dry conditions, fires can quickly get out of control and spread to nearby gardens, fences, sheds and buildings. 🚫🔥🏡
Please stay safe and help keep our local fire crews available for genuine emergencies. 🙏👨‍🚒🚨
